I’m not allowed to buy yarn until either this sweater or the shawl is bound off. To make sticking to this resolution more likely, I’m staying out of LYS and Big Box Craft store range as well.
Really, it’s not like I’ve got any mental energy left over to start more projects with these on the needles, and the warm weather is making me nervous about my ability to finish the sweater before the weather warms up (20 more rows on the body, plus one whole sleeve and a long cuff on the other). The shawl is more than halfway done, and doesn’t feel like it–it’s long and skinny and striped right now.
I stopped by a fabric/yarn store, that was reputed to have good prices on commerical type yarns (bernat, Lion brand, etc), and to my surprise they had some Mochi Plus (which is a single ply thick-thin self-striping merino, a lot like Noro Kureyon, but MUCH softer). They were down to the dregs but I got a skein to try and it was soooo nommy, I had to start making a hat immediately. Kinda pricey ($8 - 50g - 95 yds) but wow I love this yarn!
I don’t think I could ever knit a full sweater. I’m about 70% done with Swing Thing - a sweater for a 2 year old - and already I’m bored with it. :smack:
Just wanted to pop into this thread and say Hi!. Haven’t been around much. I did finally finish socks for my dh, but they’re boring so I’m not posting pics. LOL!
Have made hobo gloves for both brother and me in the meantime and started the cardigan I linked up there somewhere. Very easy, but it’s looking like I might not have quite enough yarn for it. Might have to fill in with some Wool-Ease in a complimentary color…
Almost finished with the body of the Swing Thing cardigan. Just a few more rows of garter stitch and then I can start on the sleeves. After I finish this thing I’m going to work on Willoughby.
For all the kidlettes I know. My best friend’s little boy has a brain tumour (well, had one - he’s had surgery) and needs hats to keep his poor little noggin warm (he’s lost his hair due to radiation/chemo) so I’m making a bunch of fun ones.
If anyone has cute patterns I’d love them! Crochet is probably out though - I R dum in that regard.
Prefer video? A amigurumi designer I like has a lot of good videos on her website, including video of all major stitches and liots of other helpful tips too.
By the way, there are multiple ways to hold the yarn, to hold the hook, and even how to “yarn over” – ALL are correct. Just do wat feels comfortable and gives you a consistent result.
Still knitting the sleeves for Swing Thing. I’m a bit skeptical if it’ll be nice enough to give as a present - it looks a bit lumpy - but hopefully blocking will take care of that.
Those hats are hilarious, alice. Pity my niece and nephew have gotten so big (16 and 12); they’re far too dignified for silly hats.
Cute dinosaur,** HelloAgain**.
I’m about done with the cardigan. Sleeves turned out to be 3/4. I’m crocheting an edge on them and on the bottom, maybe for the collar too. Then I need to sew buttons on and I’ll be done. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s warm and, since the yarn is re-used from a thrift-shop sweater, it was quite economical. I’m going to do another sweater shortly; not sure what pattern yet, though.
I’m not 100% happy with it - it was my first time doing things like picking up stitches and making buttonloops so parts of it are a bit sloppily done. Also, the yarn was very soft and floppy and split easily, so not very easy to work with. I KNOW I can do better next time.
