LSAT practice test
Comes early in the morning
Yet I must haiku
Summer is over
The houseplants are back inside
The front porch looks bare
Leaves begin to fall
In drifts of scarlet and gold
Hours lost to raking
Winter is Coming
Motto of ancient House Stark
Grim bunch of dudes, them
O.K. you insist
That I, Yeti must haiku
Space did not fool me
The back story…a young co-worker was frustrated. One commonality we shared was the Mary Tyler Moore show. While exchanging favorite moments, I offered the moment where Murray said of Ted’s failed attempt at decency, “When a donkey attempts to fly, you don’t criticize it for not getting far off the ground.” Words to that effect.
So we talked about how hard the job is, maybe you do your best, etc. Anyway, I emailed her a donkey haiku one Friday:
Fly, little donkey,
Stretch your wings, soar on high,
Weekend is your sky.
Thereafter it became known as the “defective donkey haiku” for its lack of seven syllables in the second line. Oh sure, we could add “and” to make it work. But we’re rebels or something
