CanadaDope 2017: Celebrating the Sesquicentennial - "... and loving it!"

Is anyone here affected by the flooding in quite a few parts of Canada?

There is flooding only a kilometre away from my family’s house. Flood waters in that area are supposed to increase, then decrease. Sadly, many people have been evacuated, and some local businesses may not survive.

Lots of flooding all around me. I’m not affected, but lots are.
It’s just been crazy. Rain every bloody day, forever. And it snowed here this morning. Not that that’s unprecedented, but enough already!

What’s everybody been doing for the Victoria Day weekend?

Me, I got my tomato and pepper plants from the garden centre, and planted them. Looking forward to enjoying fresh produce later in the summer!

And tomorrow, it will be golf with friends. What about you?

Recovering from the Cub’s birthday party, which was heavily Nerf-gun based.

In Ottawa, working like a SUCKER.

Happy Dead Queen’s Birthday! Being retired, it’s pretty much the same as any other day for me.

Well, I’m selling my house and have three showings today, so I had to escape.
I’m enjoying a pint at The Barley Mow in Stittsville, Ontario.

Aaaannnnddd loving it!

21 gun salute at the Leguslature is rattling our windows.

Happy Birthday, Ma’am!

Good on you! Glad to hear the progress on the house.

Now assembling a tumbling composter for Mrs Piper.

Getting ready to mow the lawn for the first time this year, after spending four afternoons de-dandelioning the front. (The back will be sprayed, but I can’t do this for the front lawn as it would kill all the violets growing in the grass).

I tried slow cooking ribs in the BBQ for Victoria Day. First time, and with a new jerk marinade, so a bit of an experiment, but we had lots of leftovers as an emergency fallback in case they came out inedible. I was worried that they might dry out, but they were delicious and tender.

Well, it looks like Maxime Bernier will win the federal Conservative leader seat, although the voting is still on.

That’s a good thing. He was my favourite all along. He seems a decent man and adept politician.

Wow! Andrew Scheer! What?

I never, ever saw that coming at all.

He was quoted yesterday as saying that Bernier would be in the lead on the first ballot, but that if he was within single digits of Bernier he thought he could win.

Looks like he’s a good vote-counter.

First time at the new Mosaic Stadium! Our Lady Peace just finished, then Read, then Bryan Adams to close.

I loved the old Taylor Field Stadium, but I’m going to like this place!

Ouch! Except for the concession prices!

Johnny Reid just finished. Great show! Enjoyed his Scottish-Canadian-honky-tonk more than Our Lady Peace’s rocking.

I don’t think anyone saw that coming, seeing how as no one in Canada knows who he is.

As I said over in the thread in Elections, you folks need to get out more. Scheer is well-known here in Saskatchewan  , and judging by his election, within conservative circles.

I’ve been following the leadership contest in the media, and I wasn’t surprised by the result.

I’ve read up a bit more on him now, and he is reminding me a lot of former PM Stephen Harper. Would you say this is accurate, Piper?
