Canadope Café 2018: Chatting Around the Campfire

Is this the set up for a joke?

I dunno Muffin. What WAS Hoffa doing in Calgary?

I believe he 's referring rather cryptically to the story on the body found behind the wall in a women’s washroom in a Calgary mall:

We’re discussing it, with our usual Doper tact and sensitivity to a personal tragedy, in the “Cask of Amontillado” thread:

Bingo.

For years there has been a rumour going around that Hoffa was buried in the Giant’s stadium. Now it looks like it might have been Calgary.

Just started a thread in Elections:

“Ontario provincial election: The Return of Ford Nation, Part II.”

It’s getting even more weird with the NDP on the Hill. Weir was tossed from caucus following an investigation arising from Moore’s sex allegations against him, and now the vet Moore is under investigation arising from a wounded and at the time medicated vet’s sex allegations against her.

What is it about politics that attracts these types?

Remember that court case a couple of years ago where a child died because the parents tried curing his meningitis with homeopathic remedies? Looks like their appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada was successful–in a way. The Supreme Court has ordered a new trial:

A date for the new trial has not been set, but I guess the local courthouse will be a zoo again at some point. Media, pro- and anti-vaxxers–it’ll be an experience!

Vid of my city (I’m fourth generation): Thunder Bay. My neighbourhood at 0:43, my club at 1:14, and lots of shots of places I paddle on Gitcheegumi. Thunder Bay Drone Video Four Seasons - YouTube

Ridiculous really. If these parents had only put as much effort into saving their child as they have their legal defense.

Word.

Rex Murphy on the federal government buy-out of the Kinder-Morgan pipeline. It’s an interesting take on the whole issue - how PM Trudeau and his government have created the whole situation in BC, and how the pipeline twinning is still not certain to be built.

I still don’t understand why the process isn’t set once the application is made. If you jump through all the hoops, then you get your permit. The hoop location, size and when it needs to be jumped through shouldn’t be allowed to be changed after a certain point.

I agree with you, most of Alberta agrees with you, most of BC agrees with you (barring the Vancouver hypocrites), and the courts of Canada agree with you. Premier Horgan and his Green Party alliance are about the only ones who don’t agree with you, and unfortunately, they are being allowed to hold up the whole process.

It’s official; Ontarians have lost their goddamned minds.

That’s a mighty big assumption. It assumes there was something to lose!

The Ontario Liberals have mismanaged just about every portfolio for 15 years now. We needed change, and we got it. Finally.

Honestly the Liberals should have lost back in 2014 but the PCs blew it. So a tired government limped forward and finally collapsed.

Alberta is going to do the same thing next year when we elect the waste of skin that is Jason Kenney as our premier. As Canadians, I’m starting to think that we can’t mock the US Americans too relentlessly for electing Tr*mp when we are going down that same goddamned path ourselves. :frowning:

Yes, this election is a serious blow to Canadians’ sense of superiority – by which I mean patriotism.

Trump has done the impossible!

He’s got Conservatives saying nice things about Justin Trudeau!

Scheer, Ford and Harper have all come out in support of Trudeau, calling for unified support for Trudeau as he deals with the US on trade.

What a victory for Trump’s deal-making skillz!

Jason Kenney, too. A miracle, truly.
