Cancellations you wish didn't happen.

Of the shows that have been mentioned so far, the following have been done by theDAP: MST3K , The Critic, Freakazoid, Invader ZIM, Max Headroom, and Duckman.

The Critic - A funny, inventive, marvelously written little gem with the most likable character I’d seen in years. Overwhelmed by its moronic, ham-fisted pretensions (Jay can’t get a girl!) and unconscionable creative decisions (can someone tell me what the frag the Jay’s bloodsucking ex-wife added??). The writers were so obsessed with kicking Jay around, they never realized that they had something good on their hands.

Duckman - This is an age where a cartoon with nothing but scatology, rudeness, and more scatology gets endless mountains of fawning praise (huh-huh, he said “fawning”!). How one that combined scatology and rudeness with some damn good social satire and storytelling could pass unnoticed will always be, for me, one of the great mysteries of 90’s entertainment.

Herman’s Head - Fox bent over backwords to rip this show apart. So what if it was just a gimmick? It was a good gimmick, and one that they got a lot of mileage out of. I’ll take that over tripe like Men Behaving Badly any day.

The PJs - After seeing the reaction to this (and The Boondocks), I’ve reached the sad conclusion that mainstream America just does not get race at all. One of the few comedies that was actually worth my time.

WWF Superstars of Wrestling - Before all HHH, all the time. Before every friggin’ match turning into a call-in melee. Before sex was expected to sell anything. Before the silly soap opera scenes completely overshadowed the action in the ring.

When kayfabe actually meant something. When everyone was expected to know how to wrestle and give a good performance in the ring. When “jobbers” actually had a place. When rivalries, angles, and grudges were actually given time to develop.

When the WWF had competition, and Vince McMahon had no choice but to put on a quality show week after week.

Sheesh, of all the shows I’d never thought I’d get misty-eyed over…

Providence was cancelled!!! Grrrrrrr

Wow, color me very impressed.

None of you will remember this, but it was a fantastic show which was never allowed to take off. Just look at the stars.

Ten Speed and Brown Shoes starring Ben Vereen and Jeff Goldblum. It was a delightful show but didn’t fit into the normal classifications of TV shows so the network didn’t know how to deal with it.

The original Star Trek (Next Gen, Voyager, and DS9 all lasted longer, but we only got thee seasons of the original.)
EZ Streets
The Pretender
Alien Nation
Babylon 5 (I know the story was over. I know it was always supposed to be 5 seasons. I just want more!)

I can’t remember the name of this one. It didn’t last long. It focused on a family in the future (mid-21st century?). They’re living in pretty good times, having come through some bad times that are to have occurred between now and the future in which the show is set. IIRC, each episode would tell the story of some event from the bad times. I esp. remember one where the father is desperately trying to hang on to a job in a corruptly-run factory during a major, 1930s-style depression.

Oh, yeah: Max Headroom

Sam and Max, animated on Saturday mornings. On Fox of course.

They’ve been released on video though. I sometimes wonder what my children will become on large doses of Sam and Max, taped copies of the animated The Tick, and Spongebob (which has not been cancelled, just to avoid confusion)

Add another vote for Family Guy. Damn, that was a good show.

Andy Richter Controls the Universe. (Let’s hope this buzz of its return holds true.)

Clerks: The Animated Series. I have the DVD with all six episodes on it. Too bad it couldn’t be continued.

Put me down as another vote for “Homicide: Life on the Street”. I must have jinxed the show, because I was just starting to get into it when it got cancelled.

O F \ Birds of Prey was cancelled as of Last Week.

I was actually hoping that this show would go, and have Wonder Woman show up for an episode or two. And maybe bring on Hawkgirl as a guest too, tie her in for a few episodes (mini-series). Kind of bring the women of DC Comics in once in a while.
Maybe Supergirl and Mary Marvel also.

Dunno if anyone mentioned this yet or not (a quick scan of the thread, I didn’t see it)…

Get Real, the FOX show with Jon Tenney, Deborah Farentino, and Anne Hathaway (who was in Disney’s “The Princess Diaries”).

I loved that show, for God knows what reason. Annoyed me when they let it have a full season and then canceled it.

Even though the re-runs are still shown, I wish a top-notch group of writers would bring back the Twilight Zone or Night Gallery. The Outer Limits was tried again without much success.

There is prob. a lot of foreign tv that is interesting, but not sellable or suitable for American viewers by censors standards.

The Job was great. Denis Leary’s finest hour.

Duckman gets a nod too. Too funny.

Grand was a great show that NOBODY saw as far as I know!

Jay Mohr was in a show in the last year or so where he played a Hollywood executive that was a scream. He was hateful, vain and mean…and he made it work. I can’t remember the name of the show but it was truly funny.

Does anyone remember The Wilton North Report? I seem to remember it as a fake news magazine show in the late 80’s that was only on for a couple of months. A pretty funny show, perhaps ahead of its time, perhaps not quite funny enough.
Also, Exit 57 with Amy Sedaris and Paul dinello, among others.
MR. SHOW!!!

Cholo, the show was Action. It was brutally funny. Ileana Douglas was great in it.

The one I miss the most is The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Yay, what a fun show.

You watch too many cartoons?

PSHAW!!!

…Else you would have mentioned Dungeons and Dragons.

Osiris, as for:

Yeah, two typo’s :frowning:
That should have read:

Yeah, Soap was pretty good. It launched the careers of a few people too.

Oh well.

Well, in The Critic Jay did get a girl friend, remember Alice?
And as for the WWF…er, WWE now, yeah, I liked it back 10 years ago or so. I quit watching for years, and a year and a half ago or so, when I started re-watching it, it was a lot worse. Hell, it’s not even wrestling any more, it’s just brawling and street fighting. I haven’t seen any WWE much lately, but what I thought was funny, was a few months ago, Hulk Hogan, or excuse me, that’s Hollywood Hulk Hogan, was going to retire, but Vince McMahon wouldn’t let him, because he was going to milk the hell out of Hulkimania. Uh, Hogan’s in his what, 50’s now? He may still be a decent wrestler, but does anybody think he can re-capture the magic of 10 or 15 years ago? I doubt it.

Allright, it’s time someone made the geeky sugesting.
I want Doctor Who back!!!
And keep it British. The American movie was ok, but if we restarted the series over here I’m affraid that we would ruin it.
And by the way, out of curiosity, Doctor was very popular, it lasted what, 25 or so years, the part of the Doctor was one of the most sought out parts, I’ve heard, so why were the special effects and costume budgets so low?
