This is so frustrating, I’ve searched all over google and the closest thing I can find is www.powershot.com which obviously doesn’t have the drivers I need.
I’m using a Powershot S30 and I lost my driver Cd, thought I could get them off the internet np. Two hours later I’m giving up, anyone help?
Rather than mess with camera specific drivers, why not just spend $30 on a multiformat memory card reader and be done with it? You’ll then be able to read any format, well within reason, cards. If a friend shows up with a camera different from yours you can read their cards.
Interestingly, I had to install the drivers of an S40 recenlty and the installer CD was missing half the files!!! On the Mac there was no proeblems but crucial files were missing for the PC.
I also had one helluva time finding the drivers! Ryle IIRC I went to the Canon site and had to hunt like crazy – most of the time I found dead ends or something that would say “we no longer support S40” but eventually I found a page that allowed me to download the drivers.
Oddly enough, the ‘normal’ setup doesn’t work at ALL. I had to go into add new hardware, and find the powershot s30, then locate the folder called ‘English4’ within the setup files. Only then would it detect my camera.
Yup, that sounds like the problem I was having with the S40.
Everything seemed to be okay, but as soon as I hooked up the camera I’d get the “detecting new hardware” window and then a “please insert the driver disk” message.
After several ugly trials and errors (which usually had me doing a cntrl-alt-delete), I was able to select something for the TWAIN driver from within the “English” folder. And then it finally started to work.
That was after I had dowloaded the TWAIN driver from the Canon website – the CD was useless. Dunno what was going on, but it had something to do with incomplete files for the TWAIN driver on the CD.
