Can't see land

It’s a sea of snow.

That’s what my Wife just said after shoveling the deck. And she’s right. It looks like a sea of snow with piles of it still 5 feet high and 20 feet long (from plowing).

And there is not a single place that I can see ‘land’. The plowed driveway has inches of ice on it and last nights additional 6 inches of snow (I should plow again today).

It’s been a banner year. The ski areas down the pass are reporting that they broke 500 inches this year. 41 feet. I think we did too as we live on the continental divide and get as much or more then they do.

Actually got stuck in my Pathfinder on Tuesday. To the point that my plow truck (chained up on all 4) could not pull it out. Had to call a wrecker for the 3rd time in my life.

I love it up here, but damn, summers sure are short.

That’s a whole lotta snow! Got pics?

Hmm… Camera has gone missing for the moment.

This is what it looked like when we had a 30 foot year a few years ago It’s the same seen. Though a little later in the year now.

I’ve got to hunt down my camera. I’ll take more picks when I’m out plowing.

Really can’t complain I guess. It’s very beautiful here. Just that… sheese.

Wow. Where is that… near Aspen? Don’t think there are any towns between Aspen and Independence Pass (Continental Divide)

Hoosier Pass. Between Alma and Breckenridge. The pass is 11,500. We are just below it at 11-2.

(Alma is the highest town in the Continetal US. We are above that)

Found my camera, it’s one of the first clear days in about a week. I’m going to take some shots.

You live in beautiful country… but you couldn’t pay me enough to live up there. The snow we got last night down here in Denver was annoying enough thank you very much.

I lived in Denver from 1975 to 1990. It changed a lot. I don’t think I could every go back.

Understand that I’m not dissing city life. To each his own.

:snerk: and I’m the one bitching about the weather, but it is beautiful up here. Still takes my breath away after all these years. Just not somewhere where you can have a vegi garden. (Mountain people reserve the right to bitch about the weather).

Beautiful pictures, but I’m glad winter seems to be over for us! We’ve got 13C and sunny today - good spring weather!

What’s up with the lawn chairs floating in the window of the first picture? Are they stacked on a table or something? It just looks bizarre!

I’m glad that you have all that snow. The Front Range had the warmest and dryest winter that I can remember in my 25 years of living here. We’re going to need all that snowmelt to get us through the summer.

If it suddenly gets hot and we get one of those stationary thunderstorms in the foothills, Boulder might get that massive flood that we’re long overdue for.

I guess Phoenix and other cities in the Southwest get to survive another year.

Yep, the chairs are actually stacked on other, darker chairs.

The snow will be good for everyone. I do have mixed feelings about water use though. But, I am glad that the mountains did not have a dry year.

Went to a movie today and then out for Mexican food. They had the cheery mariachi music playing loud outside the restaurant. In the snow. Sort of bizarre as we where just in Mexico a month ago. You just don’t associate that music with slush and snow.

I guess that’s the reason for all that glass, but man, I’d hate to have your heating bills!

It’s a passive solar house, so the glass does allow us to collect lots of heat from the sun. But our interior temps do vary pretty widely. We heated with a single wood stove for years and years, so it’s really not all that bad. We just have a propane stove now.

Got another 6 inches of snow yesterday/last night.

Yes, another thank you from Las Vegas.
According to reports, your heavy snowfalls this year will raise the level in Lake Mead by 20 inches or more this summer!
This will by no means make up for all those lost years and the lake at lowest levels in decades, but it certainly helps!
Make a huge snowball, throw it far, and when it melts and gets here, I will pour a cold glass of water and give you a toast from Las Vegas!
Cheers!

P.S. Please don’t write your name in yellow on that snow!
