Tom - In my profile, I identify myself as a Ret. Airline Captain and a Naval Officer, Ret. A few days back, I tried to reply to a post, and I recieved a message - Captain Ed not registered here. I tried again to register again as Captain Ed, and I was told that screen name was already taken, so today I registered as LCDR Toner, my rank.
There are no laws against racist thought but there are against racist actions. And no, the “facts” as presented are carefully culled statistics, chosen to mislead rather than illuminate.
BTW, a carefully groomed and well-spoken racist a la David Duke is no less repellent than a lower-gloss model.
Playing the historical “gotcha” game is both stupid and sterile. Yeah, blacks kept slaves. So did Indians. So did Romans; wanna start a truly surreal “dump on Italians” rant?
Here are a few observations: black on black crime is much higher than black on white. Crime is crime, and victims suffer, no matter the color of their skin. Crime and poverty go hand in hand. And no matter how you slice it, this country is still coping with the disgraceful legacy of slavery.
Anyone with a white skin enjoys an unearned advantage (and that includes me). I can remember as a small child “whites only” drinking fountains, and the uproar when the public swimming pool was integrated. Anyone with a dark skin was set apart in a way that even the meanest, most violent white trash wasn’t. Blacks (and all people of color) had to work and prove and prove again to even aspire to equal treatment.
My folks were dirt poor: mom born in a farmhouse on a hard-pan clay farm and my dad in a depressed smelting town in the fringes of Appalachia. Dad barely finished high school but became a white collar engineer and exec. Mom became a teacher. But no black could have done the same, simply because their skin color was deemed more important that intelligence and character.
Racist thought is legal, but it is cheap, scummy and despicable. Anyone who brags of being is racist isn’t a rebellious independent thinker; they’re weak little haters. Strong people don’t need to tear others down. Strong people give to others and don’t count the cost.
Racists hate and justify and rant because they lack the simple human strength to be themselves. So, PitBullDawg etc. you stand self-accused and self-labelled as so weak, cowardly and ineffectual that you have to tear down others to make yourself look even adequate.
And now let’s wait for Konrad’s patented ranting defense of bigots.
