The good Captain said that a large percentage of the population of this planet is inferior and actually evil, based on their appearance, which is governed by genes that have nothing to do with intelligence or morality. He also claimed to speak for everyone of his generation.
I called him names and attacked his right to speak for millions of people he doesn’t know.
What’s wrong with being racist? It’s stupid. It’s fucking patheticly stupid. And this is the straight dope, bitch. We don’t like ignorance. We don’t like stupid. No one arrested Captain Ed. I think that Captain Ed has clearly demonstrated with his vile, hate filled racist statements that it is possible to be Catholic (capital or small “c”) without being Christian. Not everyone who professes Catholicism, or, in Ed’s case, Eastern Orthodoxy, beleives, follows or practices the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Remember, the word “Christian” means Christlike.
Go back and read Captain Ed’s posts. Then read the New Testament, special attention to the bits printed in red. See any similarity?

But being Catholic means following the teachings of Christ as well. You can’t call someone a non-Christian without implying that they’re not Catholic either. Catholicism is a subset of Christianity; you can’t be a member of the former without being a member of the latter.
And why is it that when Captain Ed says he’s Catholic, you automatically say “Okay, he’s a Catholic”? If you don’t accept his claim that he’s a Christian, why do you accept his claim that he’s a Catholic? Do you just expect more from Christians in general than from Catholics?
I think you’re massively missing the point, Ryan. It’s like saying, “You may be my brother, but you ain’t no kin to me.” IOW, you aren’t acting like what you say you are. Obersturmgrupfuhrer Ed may go to a Catholic Church and read his Bible, but he ain’t no Christian.

Um, Ryan, have you actually read any of the Captain’s posts? His racist attitudes are hardly what I would call Christian. Ed claims to be an Orthodox Christian (or, if you will, a small “c” Catholic).
I don’t think the Orthodox church teaches that people of a darker color of skin are mere beasts that have learned to imitate human speech, and I know the Catholic Church doesn’t. If it did, I would have to find a different religion. Christ certainly didn’t didn’t teach this kind of racial hatred.
The question isn’t whether Catholicism is Christianity. It certainly is.
The issue is whether someone with the kind of hatred toward his fellow human being that Ed has toward black people can legitimately claim to be a Christian.

We most certainly do believe in the New Testament. We believe in the whole Bible. All seventy-three books ( that includes the seven books the Protestants edited out )
And many editions of both the Catholic and Protestant bibles have the words of Christ printed in red. In fact, the majority of the Bibles I have run into do.

No, they aren’t held to a lower standard, but unless one is officially excommunicated or otherwise ineligible to receive the sacraments, it isn’t like they kick you out, huh?
As long as one has been confirmed a Catholic, learned their Catechism, and attends Mass and Confession, they’re pretty much a Catholic. They might be a bad Catholic, but they’re still Catholic. Hell, I have friends who haven’t gone to Mass in 12 years who are still Catholic.
