Carole King and James Taylor

Anyone seen Carole King and James Taylor live concert this year?

I have their DVD Live at the Troubadour. It was recorded a couple years ago. It’s a fantastic concert. I’ve seen it at least 10 times and still get excited and start singing along. Those two have such an obvious friendship. James Taylor played on Carole’s Tapestry album in 1970. She played on his albums back then too.

I’d love to see them live this year. But, I’d have to drive nearly 700 miles to Chicago. It’s July 9 and by now the good seats are long gone.

I hadn’t listened to Carole King in years. Tapestry is her big selling album. I had the vinyl and 8-track in the 70’s. Wore them completely out. I’m thinking about getting some of Carole’s other 1970’s albums? Any recommendations?

What’s more, they’re playing at the United Center, which is a basketball / hockey arena. Odds are that if any seats are available through Tickemaster, they’re 300-level seats (i.e., nosebleed seats), and you won’t “see” much of anything.

Looking at resellers, there’s seats available in the 100 section and on the floor, but for a pretty penny ($200-$300 or more each).

Looks like I won’t get to see them this year. I’m hoping they’ll reunite again in a year or so. I get the impression they’ve been drawing big crowds. That should encourage them to do it again.

The amazing thing is, all the band members are people that played with James and Carole in the early 1970’s. There’s a lot of history on that stage. I’m glad they got it on DVD two years ago.

I saw them May 27 at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan. I have to say it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. A huge crowd, very enthusiastic, and a musical program that was beautifully put together. I plan to get the CD, but I think any of their “greatest hits” compilations would also be good.

There was no opening act or “filler”. They just dimmed the lights and - bang - there they were, Carole at the piano, James on the guitar. Great back up performers, too. As Aceplace57 said, they were some of the originals. They used a circular stage that slowly revolved. We had fairly good seats and paid $92 (including the Ticketmaster add-ons).

I truly hated to see it end.

I hope they do it again soon so more people can see them.

Ditto for the May 9 show in Seattle.

I did not know they were touring together. My very first concert (age 14) was James Taylor, and Carole King did the warm-up set. This was just before Tapestry hit, and she was unknown (unless you knew her songwriting credentials, which 95% of the audience did not). They were both --separately – fantastic back in '70-something, and I’m sure they were superb on the stage together in 2010.

I hope they issue a concert CD of their tour.

That’s the one I saw, too.

They are in Cleveland next week…the 7th. Last year he shopped in my store and even asked to come behind the counter to watch his purchase being prepared. I wish I could go to the concert…sigh.

What kind of purchase was it?

I’d guess the whole store.

I saw them this week. They were terrific. Played for 2 1/2 hours including encore. Band and backing vocalists were also great. Both seemed like they were really enjoying themselves on stage and everyone had a lot of energy. All in all a great time except for the schmucks sitting next to me who talked throughout the entire concert.

An engraved pocket watch. Can’t remember the Latin words he had put on, though.

I’m glad James Taylor has found his way in life. This wikipedia article details his early problems. It’s astonishing that he emerged from all that personal hell intact and sane. From what I’ve read, he’s had a rich and full life since the early 80’s.

I hope no one minds a little bumpity-bump on this thread.

Just today, I was at Sam’s Club, and I found a special package with the CD and the DVD for $14.88. I just couldn’t pass it up. Even as I tap away on my keyboard, I’m listening to the sweet opening strains of You’ve Got a Friend.

They both still sound so great!
