Carson Palmer's career is already over

Such a shame, since it hasn’t really started yet. But he somehow let his signature wind up on a contract with the Cinncinati Bengals.

For a young quarterback, that’s something of the opposite of signing a contract with the devil.

And John Kitna is the “experienced veteran mentor”. Although, in all fairness, Cincy didn’t ruin his career, Seattle did. I feel sorry for the kid.

David Klingler, Akili Smith, and now Palmer. Cincinnati: Good quarterbacks gone Bad Next on Fox.

All in all, it wouldn’t matter who was QB for the Bengals, they have an awful line. I’d trade down for multiple picks and start getting some offensive and defensive linemen if I had to Marvin Lewis’s job.

Fortunately, I don’t. I’d be awful at it.

A USC fan friend of mine (I’m a UCLA guy) always referred to “Good Carson” and “Evil Carson”.

He now thinks that “Evil Carson” is in charge. And will be for the rest of his career.

In Palmer’s defense, it’s not like he had a choice. They were going to draft him anyway. I suppose he could’ve held out or something, but he’d have ended up with someone else bad anyway…

I heard Jim Rome a while back discussing how NFL players refer to the Bengals as “the 'Nati” the way people used to refer to Vietnam as “the 'Nam.”

e.g. “Just found out you are being sent to the 'Nati, tough break.”

I’m sure his signing bonus will cushion the fall.

He could have publically stated that he would never play for them in an attempt to force a trade. It could have worked but then again, they could have just had him cool his heels for a year. Still, most of us would take millions of bucks to never have to work again.

Many of my friends* and I have referred to this place as “the 'Nati” for years (since back when the Bengals had a decent team; I moved here the first time in 1988). It’s not just the Bengals, it’s the at times bizarre local attitude. As if this is the best place in the world when it has many hallmarks of mediocrity. There are nice aspects of it, but it’s mostly boring if you’re young and looking to do things that young people do.

*My friends that are/were not originally from here. Most have since left or like me have left, only to have the come back again. Folks who are from here dread leaving the coccoon.

Yeah, i don’t follow the Bengals too closely week-to-week, but every time i’ve seen them play it seems that the quarterback is far from being their biggest problem. If you can’t get your offensive and defensive lines working, it doesn’t matter if you’ve got Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas and Dan Marino as your QB choices.

They should use their draft choices to pick up some promising linemen, and maybe a few more players from the offensive and defensive secondary.

Heheh, at least he’s not going to Detroit. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s assuming that you would get a say in anything. The Brown’s are undeniably the reason for Cinci’s mediocrity. I doubt Marvin wanted another #1 QB but Mikey sure did.

Hey, but at least the 'Nati is getting a Tour Stop.

I think Heisman QB-jinx is worse than the Bengals jinx. How many Heisman winners have won the Super Bowl? I can only come up with Jim Plunkett and Roger Staubach.

I have been a Bengals fan all my life, which may explain why I hate football.

The Bengals would have been better served if they had traded the pick away for another teams 1st and 2nd round picks, or possibly trading him for 3 solid but fairly young and unkown pros.

When was the last time a rookie QB has actually made an impact, even on a good team?
