Cassidy Hutchinson and questions on her testimony

Me neither.

Well, at least I know ahead of time what kind of nightmares to look forward to tonight.

Who took the dang video? Did a SS guy whip out his phone covered with catsup thrown against it? Did some democratic whako fake it by filming at midnight in his own car?

I’m not sure we know? It might have just been from a security camera on the building.

But it supposedly happened during the day. You know, the day Trump tried to over throw democracy and lead an armed mob to the Capitol in broad daylight. Not midnight.

This argument, “if trump’s base can finally be convinced that he did many things that were unconstitutional / Illegal / treasonous, they will stop supporting him” I think is all wrong. His base likes him because they see him as this “strongman” rebel rule breaker who’s out to stick it to the libs and others they don’t like, and the end justifies the means. Or they truly believe the election was stolen from him, so big deal if he tried to steal it back.

The only way his base will abandon him is if they see him as being weak or ‘caving’ on anything, like when he recommended the Covid vaccination at one of his rallies and got booed.

Since this whole thread is basically for @SpacemanSpiff_II, I thought I’d do him the courtesy of bringing his attention to it, and ask what he thinks of these new revelations.

Evergreen post, true regardless of topic:

I just saw a clip of the moment when she described the lunge with intent to steer.

She describes it as lunging “toward the steering wheel”, which is not the same thing as saying that he grabbed it.

Now, she does recount that the agent told Trump “you need to take your hand off the wheel” at which point she says that she was told that trump lunged “toward” him (and in so describing pointed towards his clavicle). But at no point does she say that Trump grabbed the wheel, or that he hit an agent.

It’s fascinating how quickly and forcefully her words were spun, and spun specifically to give fuel to an argument that she was lying and therefore her entire testimony was not credible.

I saw a clip of an interview with Trump and to paraphrase what he said….
“She’s crazy. She said I jumped into the front seat of the limo, assaulted the driver and tried to commander the car. She’s crazy.

This is the tactic. Lie about what she said and call her crazy.

I think there may be another way. As he steps on more of his own base to climb higher and higher, people will start to realize that he’s not the god they thought he was and he was only in it for himself. Think about what will happen if he’s somehow backed into a corner and finds himself in a position of having to denounce white supremacy/Nazis/Proud Boys or lose the election. Or what if, in order to accomplish something, he decides to cut subsidies to farmers?
I’m not saying either of those scenarios are going to happen, but it seems like at some point he’s going to start pissing off his own base and it’s just going to take a group that’s large enough (ie white supremacists, farmers etc) or has enough power over his base (ie Fox News, NRA) that his empire could start crumbling.

The only way I’ve ever found to respond to those types of comments (someone getting their info, second hand, from Fox when the first hand info is readily accessible) is to either tell them to show me where they saw it and/or telling them to go watch the actual interview or read the actual report or whatever it is and see what was actual said/written. IOW, saying something along the lines of “That’s a direct talking point from [someone on Fox News], go watch what [whoever we’re talking about] actually said, it’s on youtube”.

I very much doubt anyone goes back to the actual source to check their information, but it’s usually enough to at least get them to STFU for a few minutes.

Jordan Klepper shows Maga fools clips of the actual hearings that none of them watched. Trying to change the minds of these people is like trying to dig a hole through a mountain with a teaspoon.

Some people will never learn. Too many people with too much invested financially and psychologically to pull away. They’re just not built for it.

They will celebrate the increase in farmers’ chocolate rations to twenty grams a week.

Of course the election was stolen. They truly believe that they, the Trumpettes, deserved to win, and not getting what you deserve is the same thing as having it stolen from you. As long as they use that definition of “stolen” any argument you have based on the dictionary definition of the word will fall on deaf ears.

I so wish this video was legit.

I’m not entirely sure what that means, but my point wasn’t that MAGAs, in general, will have a problem with that, it’s that the farmers will have a problem with it. Trump certainly doesn’t want to lose the support of such a huge industry.

Back when Trump had tariffs put in place, and China retaliated against our soy farmers, these same farmers still supported Trump. It’s a sickness.

Thank you for using this phrase (to which I added the emphasis)

Yes, this. There was a time in that famous debate where he was talking over Biden and told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by”, that in subsequent debates (which never happened) he would try to make some distance between himself and the far alt-right. But fortunately, he is far too short sighted for that- he ALWAYS plays to his base. He does not seem to have the ability to think in terms of expanding his base or even his appeal. He seems to care about only losing what he already has (which might indicate how worthy he himself thinks he is).

Last night I had dinner with a former friend who refuses to watch anything at all to do with the actual hearings or even short videos recapping direct testimony. She has very strong opinions based upon nothing but tweets and text messages which all come from: “good Christian people that I know would never lie.” If you can get a die-hard Trumper to watch anything approaching truth – you are a better man than I! (I try all the time to get several in that camp to just give it a look and assure them that I don’t care if they agree with my view or disagree- only that they watch the actual testimony, but they all seem to be desperately fearful that if they watch any of it “the Devil” will capture their soul [the way he has mine]. Some of them may actually believe that!)

In my circle, some will actually admit that the reason the election was stolen is through dilution- because we let so many non-white Christians vote. Replacement theory is strong in these ones.

True, but he cannot, will not, never will he lose anyone who already supports him. He would rather keep a hundred Proud Boys (he already has - for free!!) then lose lose that hundred to gain ten-thousand farmers, or Muslims, or anyone- but especially anyone who could possibly cost him “his” base people, beautiful people, people he loves because they love him.
(And the quote sounds like it may be from Animal Farm, but I couldn’t say for sure.)

And that’s such a big part of the problem. Not that long ago (like just in the last few months) someone I know, randomly stated that, WRT covid, Trump didn’t do anything wrong. He made the best choice possible based on the information he had at the time. Really stressing the ‘at the time’, part. Kinda caught me off guard and my first instinct was to think (for a split second), sure, that makes sense. Any one in his position can only work off the information they have at the time. But then, after spending an additional split second, I remember Trump very specifically saying the scientists/Fauci are telling him to do X so he’s going to do Y instead. IOW, he wasn’t making the best choices based on the information available at the time he was deliberately, and openly, doing the opposite.
I wasn’t going to go and dig up actual evidence of him saying that because I A)don’t care enough to put that much energy into it and B)this person is going to vote Red no matter what. If Trump runs, he’ll have this person’s vote.

The Secret Service driver would have been happy to take Trump to the Capitol, but he was on his lunge break.
