I don’t mind that Castle doesn’t have all the answers, and gets hoodwinked sometimes himself. It sets for a more balanced exchange with Beckett (she is a professional, after all). And I thought the daughter stuff was fine–it makes sense that parents get worked up about little stuff, and I like that the daughter has relatively normal concerns and proclivities, instead of being the source of gratuitous drama. I also like that Beckett is slowly becoming more comfortable w/her friendship w/her “partner” and his family. And I wouldn’t mind having Nathan pop up again.
This was also the first time I noticed that Nathan Fillion also does the voiceovers for some of the I-phone app ads.
I wouldn’t mind a sub-plot on Scarlett. Like maybe a two part “very special episode” about what she was like on the high school cheerleading squad, how her college gymnastics career went, how she washed the ancient blue Beetle in the summers before coming to NY…things like that.
Not that it wasn’t obvious anyway, but an example of give away casting. Slightly too prominent (a season as the ADA on L&O:SVU) for the indicated role.
I noticed a Desperate Housewives reference (Nathan Fillion had a recurring role on that series).
But what I recently realised is that all the episode titles are meant to sound like they’re from cheesy crime novels:
[ul]
[li]Deep in Death[/li][li]Fool Me Once[/li][li]When the Bough Breaks[/li][li]Famous Last Words[/li][li]Kill the Messenger[/li][li]Love Me Dead[/li][/ul]
Re: the names. He even mentions some of the episode titles within the episodes as what he would title the book if he wrote about that case. I love how this show is starting to get meta, what with Heatwave now being a real book and all. I think the people involved are having a blast with all this.
It really is growing on me over time. I still find the family related B-plots annoying, but the A-plots are funnier and more interesting, if still sometimes a little obvious.
But when I came back from a vacation with a watchlist stuffed full of recordings, Castle was the first scripted TV I caught up on (all the reality competition shows like Top Chef and Project Runway came first since they’re so much more readily spoiled).
I’ve been dying for the last month because they shut down all the series I was watching. Seasonal TV programming sucks. They need to just start releasing stuff and letting people watch it when they’re ready to.
Spread the word if you can, seems a lot of people don’t know it’s back on Monday - would hate to see the ratings drop on what I hear is going to be a very exciting episode!
