Not to get all rulesy, but isn’t it also kind of posting by proxy.
Anyhow, I think he’s polished the story himself a little. No factual contradiction was noticed, merely two very opposing attitudes which were displayed - but they were in very different circumstances.
I didn’t care. They asked me to do it so I did it. No skin off my dick. I actually did think she might have been jerking us around. It wouldn’t have been the first time someone did. I wasn’t looking to stir a pot so much as just being the one willing to point out some contradictory posts. It wasn’t too long after that dude had been banned for creating a long, fake history about being a transexual or something, and people were more on guard about potentially being duped by bogus board “characters” at that time.
Yeah, I remember this. olives was fairly new on the boards and had several times mentioned what a sexually liberated upbringing she’d had, and then in another thread she morphed into an abuse survivor who couldn’t enjoy sex at all. As Dio says, we’d had a few attention-seeking liars just prior to that, and thinking we had another one was an easy mistake to make.
But never mind that, I need you to do something. You see, I have this sooper-seekret info about this guy billfish, and I need you to post it to the boards for me. Its juicy stuff, about underage hookers (and I know you like thinking about them amiright?;))
Anyway, I will PM you the details. I would post it myself, but it might be better coming from you, since you are so respected and all.
And who the fuck said I was “respected?” I wasn’t asked to do that because I was “respected,” but because I didn’t give a fuck if I got called an asshole for it. They didn’t want their board reps sullied, and I didn’t care if people got pissed at me.
Guilty. I did it again. I wasted an hour of my time debating the use of the Hebrew word ‘rabbi’. He wanted to tell me he knew what the 4,000 year old word originally meant 2,000 years later based on * Greek *translation.
Then, once it was clear that I made my points, he said, “The bible is fiction anyway, and we don’t even know if that word was used.”
So why were you trying to tell me you knew what it meant in 30 BCE, Dio?! You don’t even think it was used!
Then he told me that you can’t use the Bible to make any case about Jesus since the Bible is fiction. Okay, so then how can he can tell me “facts” about Jesus?
Oh my God, now we’re on to “People secretly PM’ed me! I’m not a lone nut! There are other people who think like me! Secret people! People who send PMs!”
This is truly a new low.
Before this thread I thought the guy just had some problems with empathy or tone or something. I am now leaning towards believing that he really is just making shit up. I mean “it ruins my whole day when people criticize me”? Yeah, it’s ruined so badly that he spends all the rest of his waking hours rapid-fire posting at the place that made him so upset. Whatever, dude.
Don’t mean to interrupt, really, but I just had to step in to note what a pure fantasy this is. The SDMB is not a special Galt’s Gulch of beautifully minded people. Most discussion here, including in Great Debates, goes on without a lick of citation to anything but opinion. Rarely do people bother to refer to empirical evidence, and rarely do people here appreciate it when one takes the time to do so.
And this tendency for people on the other side of the debate to review a cite and with good grace say “Ignorance fought”? Where is that happening here?
For instance, how many times has Starving Artist advanced his theories about the manner in which liberals shat upon the American utopia? Has anyone changed in any way in the context of those “debates”? He forcefully advances those opinions regularly, and is an asshole while doing so, but somehow we don’t have the Starving Artist show.
How about Sam Stone? He’s never changed his opinion once regarding economic theory. No amount of expert opinion nor of the real world actually crashing and burning the theories he advances has ever had any effect on his economic beliefs. Because they represent such real-world ruin, I find his unchanging opinion far more villainous than Dio’s bull-headed ignorance of state laws regarding overtaking other drivers on the highway. Yet, not only is there no Sam Stone show, but he’s often held up as an example of a clear thinking conservative with strong economic credibility.
How about the Bricker show? He regularly posts deceptive partisan hackery, with a thin veneer of legal authority. Now, he differs in that after several pages of painfully pulling the discussion through the knothole, he may acknowledge error. But contrary to your assertion, that makes him a rarity on the SDMB. And that never seems to stop him from offering a new post the next day of equal or worse partisan hackery.
How about the global warming deniers? intention or whatever his name is, and the other guy? Any evidence that they’ve ever changed their opinions?
My point is that the SDMB cast of characters is well established. We could all probably predict exactly the nature of the posts offered by any regular contributor here. The same goes for me. The idea that this is some place of thoughtful exchange of evidence based ideas about the world, in which people routinely alter their thinking when offered new information to the contrary, is delusional.
I’m quite sure it happens. One quick way to bring scorn upon yourself is to try to contradict the Dio Show gang. I used to find it funny, because it so predictably led to accusations of me wanting homosexual relations with Dio.
It’s just so predictably boring now, so I don’t really bother. Yeah, Dio posts strong opinions. More often than I used to believe, these are also wrong. Big fucking deal. Someone on the internet is wrong AND they won’t change their opinion! Yikes.
Nah, I think I’m with Pyper on this one. Listing a bunch of conservatives who have the shocking audacity to remain conservative is nowhere near the kind of bullshit Dio takes heat for, which I would think is fairly obvious to anyone who spends even a little time around here.
PS: Hentor, I bet if we counted, we’d find that you yourself have mentioned the “homosexual relations with Dio” thing way more often than anyone else has. It’s to the point where when I see you’ve posted in a thread, I assume “Oh, Hentor must be complaining about the Dio sex thing again.” I was sort of surprised when you didn’t mention it in your first post in here.
Why don’t you go ahead and count, then? Yeah, I did come to mention it, because it was so routine it became a joke.
Let me know what you come up with, okay? Also, let me know if it changes your opinion about whether Dio Show perpetuators can tolerate someone having a different opinion on the matter. Perhaps that’s part of the very problem?
