For the sake of the board, which I do care about, I will make an effort to be more thoughtful about how I say what I say instead of just popping off. I know I’m hyperbolic. In real life the bombast comes off as less literal amd serious than it does in pure text. I have a tendency to feel that I know I’m right, that my point is reasonable or that I at least have a right to my opinion, so what are they getting so upset about, but I will hereby resolve to take some time before I wade into controversial topics and really think through what I say and how I say it, because I think I do have reasonable points underneath the bombast if I will just get out ofmy own way.

I don’t normally pile on to the DtC bit, as I think he is a truly stubborn, often intractable, so far totally honest to the point of painful truth poster- we should have more who won’t back down… But I also don’t like reading the bs responses when he won’t back down. WTF? It is his opinion- if he can find a cite online (and who can’t, for ANYTHING), then so what? Take a trip and click another link if you aren’t interested.

The last think I posted about DtC was surprise that we agreed on something…

I really don’t want to get into all this again, but that was a case of a false pregnancy, not a miscarriage, and the thread title was “my baby died.” I thought, at that time, that the thread title was misleading and manipulative. When I said “there was no baby,” I wasn’t ridiculing the belief that a fetus was a baby, but was pointing out that there literally was no fetus. Nothing died.
People can feel however they want about me doing that, but I at least want the description to be accurate.

Let me again mention the club that I was in that had a dog problem. The dog problem just would not go away. It never got better. The powers that be never did anything about it. At best half assed token measures that accomplished nothing. It festered. Different people complained, the complaints were duelly noted, filed away and ignored. Sound familiar?

On the internet, no one knows that Dio is a dog.

For the record, it’s not like I haven’t been challenged on the Bible stuff, and haven’t stood up to it.

I’ve read some of those threads, and when you’re challenged you reply with posts that contain cites, and explanations why your position is what it is. From my point of view, an atheist who knows the bible and can explain what it is, and what it isn’t, is wonderful to read.

I think what frustrates a lot of people is that we know you are capable of so much more than “The Dio Show”. If that sounds patronising, I apologise, I can’t think of a better way to express it.

A practical piece of advice that might help out with the staccato posting (and apologies if you already knew this):

Do you see the button to the right of the quote button, the one with the quotation marks and the ‘+’ sign? If you see 4 or 5 people all posting a very similar thing you want to respond to, click that button on each of their posts then hit “post reply” at the bottom, and then make one response, rather than 4 or 5 individual responses. Not only will that cut down on you posting the same thing to different people all within a very short time, you also may cut down on the number of tangents.

I can’t speak to the truth of Dio’s claim, but it doesn’t strike me as implausible. They shouldn’t have been afraid but there are a lot of cowards in the world who will act nice to your face then run off and say cruel things about you.

Personally, I think there are two things going on here. One, Dio is an obnoxious ass who tends to derail threads with his posting style.

Two, some people are very gleeful about the prospect of having a target of harassment, and will bring up “Dio Show!!” even when inappropriate.<snip>

Right. Both parties are at fault. I’m hoping to see the people hollering “Dio Show!” get a warning next time it happens.

Pepper-spraying an 8-year-old? Obviously I wasn’t there so I don’t know exactly what went down, but there are techniques for suppressing violent children, and it seems like those techniques should have been used here. Were these cops not trained in them, or were they somehow inappropriate for the situation?

I believe these express the same opinions as Dio expressed in earlier threads, but they do so with an acknowledgment of a personal stance on the issue, and also allow for differing opinions without those differing opinions being pre-cast as worthless, perverted, or cowardly.
