So…it’s interesting that you were able to get sooper-sekrit pms from your many admirers who wanted you to champion their viewpoint…when PMs weren’t turned on for anyone here and wouldn’t be for I’d guess another year or 18 months.

I have never seen you receive an email, so there is simply no way that you could have received one.
What happens with Diogenes the Cynic is that there is no specific board rule that he is breaking. If you ban him just for “being a jerk” then the people that are happy with the banning will say “you just need to use your judgment and ignore the people that don’t like it.” Then there will be the people that start the ATMB thread and complain how “the administrators just ignore us and refuse to answer our questions or justify their actions”. And there will be the people who say “the administrators use the ‘be a jerk’ rule for no reason except to get rid of people they don’t like”. Not infrequently the same people that say “just use your catch-all ‘don’t be a jerk’ rule on poster X” will be the same people screaming to high heaven when you use the catch-all “don’t be a jerk” rule on poster Y.
One can never predict the future, but things that seem clear-cut can turn into a multi-page bitchfest with cries of unfairness and capriciousness and whatever else.
Personally I see why Diogenes’ style of argument can irritate people, but I also see that people don’t need to argue with him if they don’t like the way he does it. It’s not all one-sided here.

I wouldn’t give a flying fig if Dio stayed or was banned if the threads we are all trying to participate in didn’t get shut down because of his assholery. Ellen Cherry said it herself in the ATMB thread - that it was a case of, “Okay, I don’t care who started it, you’re all getting your toys taken away.” I really don’t think that is the only or best solution to one guy who can’t control himself.

He’s wrong. He’s been wrong before on Biblical Hebrew, too. I’ve corrected him a few times and I’ve only been here two weeks. It wouldn’t be annoying if he didn’t pull the ‘neener neener you’re wroooooooooooooooooongggggggggg!’ rebuttal without any, you know, citations, facts, or counter-argument.
