Celebrities still around, or "Wow, I thought they were already dead".

I’ll second that, only because he looked on deaths doorstep 30 or 40 years ago.

He also regularly does the voice of the decrepit, addled retired superhero Mermaid Man on SpongeBob SquarePants. Tim Conway plays his sidekick, Barnacle Boy.

Tangent: I know a longtime licensed tour guide at Gettysburg battlefield. He’s given several tours to Borgnine, who is, he says, dumb as a box of rocks. The smartest, most Civil War-savvy celebrity to whom he’s given tours? Lynda Carter, oddly enough.

Wonder Woman a history geek?

Le sigh…

Ingrid Bergman is definitely dead. Dead since 1982, I believe.

psssst. post #4

 I didn’t mean Ingrid Bergman…I meant Ingrid Bergen, which is who I thought I typed. I just rechecked it and it is…I also clicked on the article that I linked to in the OP, and it does seem she’s still alive…
ETA: There are three people with alike sounding names, Ingrid Bergman, IgMAR (er…something, can’t remember what his last name is, but he’s a director), and Ingrid Bergen. My grandfather, being mostly German, used to watch the last’s movies all the time.

Ingmar’s last name is also Bergman. :stuck_out_tongue:

This thread reminds me of a “Are they dead or Canadian” quiz I saw going around awhile back. Pretty funny concept.

Oops…sorry! Read that completely wrong.

Ingmar Bergman…also dead.

Her sister, Joan Fontaine, is also still alive. And they still hate each other’s guts.

Art Linkletter is around 95, not sure if he is doing much House Partying, though.

If someone had asked me, I would have guessed Sid Caesar and Art Linkletter were dead by now. Hope they keep on keeping on!

I never actually though she was dead, but I was shocked to read an article about Liz Taylor making a public appearance. It had been so long since I had heard anyone mention her in the present tense that I had sort of forgotten about her still being around.

J.D. Salinger is presumably still around somewhere, gossip columnist Army Archerd is definitely still kicking, Jennifer Jones is enjoying retirement, Pete Seeger is still awesome & Betty Garrett is probably still a radical, and they’re all age 90.

lavenderviolet not only is Dame Elizabeth still making public appearances, she’s on Twitter, and by all appearances, she’s tweeting herself, not relegating it to a staffer.

I may be straight, but that’s reason enough to get on Twitter.

FTR, I reference you to the LIFE Magazine stills from “Cleopatra” and note that I was an impressionable 8 or 9 at the time.

OTOH, Betty Garrett was in one of the worst movie musicals I slogged through, On the Town. “One of” because the sequel was worse.

Well, he’s dead NOW, but I was shocked earlier this year when Andrew Wyeth died. I had no idea he had still been alive up to that point.

Good Lord what are you talking about with the Batman thing??

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. was THE face of the FBI on the TV. That’s why they honored him.

(embarrassed to admit I know him from “77 Sunset Strip.” Not because the show was bad, but because the theme song was irredeemable.)
