Celebrity Apprentice II

kittenblue, I cried, as well. I have always liked Dennis, and hoped he would pull himself together. Now I understand the depths of some of his problems…what a weird way for him to get a bit of an intervention. I felt so much as though all those folks in the boardroom…from Dennis’s teammates to the guy from Loews who doesn’t know him at all, all felt desperately bad about the situation.

I am highly impressed with Jesse James and also with Joan Rivers. There is way more to each of them than one might see on the surface.

One lighter-side thing about this episode…when Brian McKnight gave the check to that couple who founded the charity he’s playing for, I thought for sure they were going to say that they were his parents. The three of them just looked so perfect together.

Was that right at the beginning? I missed the first few minutes.

Yeah, me too – end of Amazing Race?

Is it me, or is the real secret here is that Dennis Rodman isn’t really all that bright? Look, I’m a Rodman fan from his “Bad as I Wanna Be” days, but I never sensed there was much going on upstairs. He’s an incredibly skillful player, with a flair for self-promotion… but I think his drinking was as much camouflage for the fact that he didn’t know what the hell he was doing. Most players try to stick to a script that they followed in professional life. Rodman, for all his skill, was never much in the leadership department. So I don’t think he knows how to lead. He would probably be a good foot soldier under someone who could really impress him (think Jordan or Isiah/Joe Dumars in Detroit) but not much cop otherwise.

I mean, did the guy say or do anything of note his entire time on the show? He said that he could get a cheap or free PA for the videophone event. Aside from that it’s random shit, like when he told McKnight that they should rent some Ferraris to sit in front of the hotel. McKnight was like, “What the fuck for?”

The one thing I don’t like about Celeb Apprentice is that people stick around for the novelty value and not much else. Rodman didn’t do shit in any of the previous tasks. I mean, nothing. Trump reams that Kardashian chick out for doing nothing, but at least she was there. Rodman disappears or sits in a van for a task and there’s no mention. He was only there to be Dennis Rodman. Which is novel for a few minutes, not much longer.

Rodman is a guy who has pretty serious emotional problems, I think. His autobiography starts with him contemplating suicide. I don’t know if the problems he has are new or exclusively because of the alcohol.

On another note, both Rivers women are frightening to behold. I don’t remember what Joan looked like before the knife, but I don’t think it’s done her any favors. Melissa is even more frightening to look at. As much as I disliked that suitcase opening chick, she had a point about her plastic forehead.

I like Annie the poker player and Tionne. They seem like workers. Tionne is managing to avoid the hate that Annie caught because of her occasionally condescending tone and inability to temper her enthusiasm at times. She’s a sleeper and might go pretty far in this.

The guys remaining are pretty likable. Clint Black seemed dickish at first but seems like a stand-up guy, especially in how he handled himself with the whole Rodman situ. Herschel Walker isn’t necessarily the brightest guy, but he’s solid and has a really consistent work ethic. Brian McKnight is a real leader and he has the potential to run away with this thing. But the biggest surprise has to be Jesse James. I don’t know anything about the guy, and at first glance he seems a little slow… but I really like the guy. He’s smart, empathetic, and I think he probably made the one statement that Rodman was touched by (if that’s possible). It was when he made the comparisons between meeting Herschel Walker and meeting Rodman - something like, meeting Walker, you walk away more impressed with the guy than your impressions of him from the media. Meeting Rodman, it’s the opposite - he’s much less than you expect. Devastating and the kind of comment that helps people pull their shit together.

What the fuck was that crap?

The task was idiotic (Make us an edgy viral video that people would want to email to friends, oh but it has to appeal to conservative soccer moms… Riiiight.) and the firings were too stupid even for Trump.
OK, and I just watched the videos mentioned in the commercial on the All website, and if that was what the executives were going for then they should not have called them “viral videos.” They’re just… commercials. Long boring commercials.

And two hours’ worth of that crap.

I loves me some bad TV, but I’m not sure this is watchable. Thank god I was mostly playing Scrabble, and only tangentially watching.

Trump seemed even more misogynistic than he normally does.

And I suppose the lesson learned is never admit to past wrongdoings, never take responsibility for your actions and never stand up for someone.

Both vids were horrible, but I agree the task was basically undoable.

And I think Trump’s firings were the most unreasonable ever. Firing someone for DUI that happened BEFORE the show started? Yeah, right. Clearly he’s unhappy that he’s finally been forced into firing so many of the ‘big’ celebrities, so he’ll do anything he can to save what he’s got left. :frowning:

Trump is as bad as the Rivers’ at never shutting up long enough to let anyone answer the question they just asked. And his constant commentary about how attractive the actress was, and how it was obvious she’s never had kids, makes me worry for his current wife. His total amazement that Annie has four children was so offensive. In fact the show would be much better if Trump never made an appearance.

Donald Jr. and Ivanka seemed clearly taken aback by the firings, and you could see them mentally filing away things to “not do or say in front of Daddy” but they are such experts at not letting their true feelings show in front of Trump. There was no way they could disagree with him and win.

I thought the firings were such a cop-out. I think Khloe was relieved to get away from the crazy, but it really didn’t seem fair to fire her for fulfilling her legal obligation in regards to the DUI. I know he fired her because of having GOTTEN a DUI to begin with, not for leaving the show to attend a court-ordered mortuary visit, but Clint had so badly managed this whole task, and Trump didn’t even get around to discussing how horribly it had gone because of him. I know Clint took those two in there just so Trump would have to fire him and not Joan or the others, but I guess Trump decided to beat him at his own game.

Altogether a waste of my time tonight.

I’m really starting to brood about the fact that they’re running this at two hours. Trump no doubt regards it as his due, and NBC has nothing better to put on – but why the hell hasn’t Mark Burnett (a true TV genius, IMHO) explained to one and all that there isn’t two hours’ worth of material there each week? There is absolutely no reason on earth why that material wouldn’t have been better served by being presented in half the time.

… as demonstrated by the fact that they showed both of those videos more than once.

Someone should have stood up and yelled, “You want viral?? You can’t handle the viral!” They were obviously thinking more along the lines of SuperBowl rather than viral. That being the case, the teams should have realized it and accommodated them and not got hung up on the word viral.

The Athena video had potential if they had used kids instead of little people although that might have just upped the creepy factor. The ending, although funny, was wholly inappropriate for All. The KOTU video wasn’t bad, it was just stupid. I thought the popups were a good idea but I don’t think that they needed to add the “cheating” element to it. Going after the narcissistic, cheating, single man was probably not the demographic that All was trying to reach.

Both project managers should have said no when Trump told them to bring back two team members. If Clint were really bothered by Joan’s insubordination, he should have brought her back like he said he would. Trump had no business claiming the moral high ground in his firing of Khloe. Tionne’s firing, while unjustified, was not completely unexpected. At least Trump is consistent, kind of.

The All people didn’t know what they wanted, and didn’t understand what a viral video is, which is kind of ridiculous on their part since Dove has had success with that format and Dove and All are both owned by Unilever. The All people could have gone down the hall and asked the Dove people for help. I thought the All executives didn’t know what they were doing when they were talking to the teams and said something like they didn’t want to appeal to “mothers”, but “women with children.” What the hell? Maybe they should try to appeal to tweens next.

The only person on either team who even would have had a shot at being able to create a funny video was Joan, and she was totally shut down by Clint (who looks like more and more of a bozo every week). It was a near impossible task anyway – create an “edgy and hip” viral video for laundry detergent, but make sure it isn’t too edgy or hip – but if you have someone on your team who’s been a highly successful comedy writer (and occasional director) for over 40 years, why the hell wouldn’t you just turn it over to her and say, “Here, Joan, write something funny, direct a video and we’ll do whatever you need us to do.” Did Clint really think that his jerking-off joke was better than anything Joan Rivers could have come up with? Leading a task should mean knowing how to use people’s talents, not trying to do something yourself that a teammate can do better. If they had a task requiring them to restore a classic car, would he shut Jesse out of it and insist that he could do it himself? What an idiot.

Trump’s firings were kind of left field, but not really surprising. He does hate it when people volunteer themselves to get fired. He does have a consistency in liking it when people “fight” for themselves, even if their arguments are terrible.

He should have fired Clint instead of Chloe, but Chloe’s kind of a waste of space anyway, so I don’t really feel sorry for her. In a weird way, I kind of like it that a DUI would bother him that much. Her defense that she was “taking responsibility” for it is kind f disingenuous since it’s not like she had a choice about it. The judge made that decision, not her.

Can someone with a better Apprentice memory than me remind me who “Bradford” was, and what were the circumstances that caused him to volunteer to go to the Boardroom? I know I’ve probably seen it, but I’m drawing a complete blank.

I don’t remember what season it was – 2nd or 3rd maybe – but he had immunity that week and popped off at the mouth saying he was willing to waive it. Trump called his bluff on it, then fired him for being a dumbass.

Here, I found this. He was kind of a sexist ass, from what I remember.

IIRC, while in the Boardroom Trump asked Bradford if he was worried about being fired & Bradford retorted that he was so sure he was safe he’d be fine with the PM bringing him back, since he obviously wouldn’t be fired.
Which isn’t really the same thing that happened with Tionne. Bradford was trying to one-up Trump, and his assertion that he was safe was made to Trump, not in private to the PM. If Melissa (and the rest of the team) really felt that no one did anything wrong and there was no blame, then I’m sure Trump would have faulted Melissa just for randomly picking people. No one from Athena should have been fired anyway, Perez did like their video and said they hit the viral aspect of it. What was the point of even having him if his opinion meant nothing? The executives couldn’t find their asses with both hands.

Ah, I was off a bit on the Bradford thing. Diogenes was right, he had immunity that week and decided to waive it. Which reminds me, they haven’t done the thing with the PM getting immunity this season have they?

Oh, that’s right. It wasn’t so much that he volunteered to come back to the boardroom as it was that he had immunity and said he didn’t need it.

Thanks!

That it! I’m done with this show. I know it’s been bad for a while, but it’s complete f’ing garbage now. And two hours of it, no less. I’m done, I’m out, I’m bailing. This show is completely worthless.

What? Staring at Joan’s face for two hours, waiting for it to morph into something human, isn’t enough entertainment for you?
