Celebrity Apprentice (spring 2012) [edited title]

I loved that one guy’s comment about how after Paul (?) named his two guys to take to the Boardroom he managed to pick the only three minorities on the show.

Really, this is an amazingly white cast.

Same goes for The Amazing Race, but that’s for another thread.

Interesting. I thought that she looked REALLY good for a woman of 64. She didn’t overdo the makeup like the rest of them. She looked more natural. I liked it.

Some advice for CA watching: never watch in real time. Nobody deserves to have 2 hours of their life wasted like that. It’s 1:26 with no commercials, so either DVR and watch it later (or about 45 minutes in) or search the interwebz for other means…

Aubrey… I have heard of her, only because Bossip talks shit about her (or did when she was more famous). Her voice is annoying and she was way too full of herself.

Some of the women are rather frightening. Teresa whatsherface, Gotti… man, you do not want to run into them in a poorly-lighted section of the Trump apartment.

I unfortunately predict we will see a lot of Gotti, but there’s not much substance there. She’s going to make veiled threats to others, or they’ll sense that she will, and she’ll cruise far into the show without doing a damn thing. Meanwhile, Miss Universe (who seems solid but has no claim to deep pockets or relative fame) will be out on her ass in a few shows.

The snark provided by Lampanelli, Corrola, and Hall will be great this season.

On the guys’ side, Clay was surprisingly likable and hardworking. I think George Takei will have to assert himself better, or he will get ganged up on by the alpha males. Chopper Guy was surprisingly effective but I think he will make enemies quickly.

Trump, with his hideous spray tan and too-eager claims of heterosexuality (“I own Miss Universe! I’m not interested in Mr. Universe! I’M NOT GAYYYYY”) grates as usual. I did kind of like how Chopper dude blew off Ivanka… sometimes the Trumpettes are annoying, like they are business magnates themselves.

Drama looks fairly low key, but I agree, they need to tweak the formula on the fundraising tasks. Maybe they could judge based on money, team organization, and creativity? That way a very cohesive team that doesn’t have the $300K hookup could still win if they excelled in other areas.

I suspect I’ll be watching, but the intrigue is wearing off on this show several years in…

Is Gotti’s constantly pissed off look how she normally is, or is she just playing up being a mobster’s daughter for the cameras?

Holy shit. This is, legitimately, mind-blowing. And honestly, even saying she looks 69 is being kind.

Wow, different strokes. Every time he opened his mouth, I just wanted to shout at the TV, “Shut up, already.” Nothing he said was very funny, and it was almost always completely inappropriate. There’s a time and place for his kind of juvenile humor, and this wasn’t it.

This is what I was thinking during the show. He’s used to shouting and bossing people around. The first time he’s not in charge, next week, there is going to be some drama with him as he’s trying to boss everyone around.

As soon as she appeared on screen my husband and I exclaimed “Anck Su Namun!”
We had no idea she was a supermodel.

It’s disappointing that Trump wasn’t able to get more famous women on this season. Patricia Velasquez will go far, though. I like her.

As many have said, the fact that you can win a challenge just by having an absurdly rich friend is one very unappealing factor to this show.

Exactly. Take away the one anonymous $300,000 donation and how much would the women have won by?

I don’t like the fundraising challenges because everyone holds out with their big doners unless they are the PM and selling 100 sandwiches at $100 per pop shows more business savvy than calling in a whale to buy a one-time sandwich for $50,000.

They could have structured the challenge like this:

Making the most money: 10 points
Selling the most number of sandwiches: 10 points
Getting the most people into your store: 5 points
Rachel Ray challenge: 5 points (which, under the original version, was wholly irrelevant in determining a winner)
Tiebreaker: most variety of sandwiches listed on menu

Well if you take away the the 300K donation, you got to take away ALL the donations, not just the 300K donation.

It would be close, but I think the men win by virtue of the 35K Rachael Ray win.

It wasn’t the donations so much as having a system where ONE donation can completely outweigh everything else in the challenge. If in the first 5 minutes of the challenge, Paul slaps cheese between two slices of bread, calls a friend and sells it to them for $500,000 and then does nothing else, he wins the challenge. Is that the spirit of the challenge? If so, then why even bother with the whole sandwich deli thing.

That’s the problem with CA. If the goal is to call rich friends to have them donate then make the show about that and show them on their cells in their offices. If it is to perform a marketing or sales challenge, then it should be evaluated on that basis.

Adam Carolla talked about the unfairness of the donations on his podcast this week. One team could work their asses off making & selling a 1000 sandwiches and the other team can screw off and win with a big donation. Adam makes a valid point that it doesn’t make sense to take retail sales all that serious on Apprentice.

I prefer more legit challenges where the celebrities work matters. For example, they always create an ad campaign every season and its judged by the sponsor. Donors can’t save you in that challenge.

Paul Teutul was silly for wasting his best donor on the first challenge. Plus he brought his custom motorcycles to the store. He’s fired all his shots and the season just started.

Which episode? Doesn’t he do like 5 a week?

And seeing his ego shattered will make waiting for this event worth it.

I loved the comment Jesse James made about the bikes he makes; “they just take bikes other people make and pfttttttttttt put frosting on them.”

You can search the podcast descriptions for Apprentice. I expect he’ll talk about each episode the next day or so after it airs.

Here’s his comments after the 1st episode.

That wasn’t Tiegs. That was former Charlie’s Angel, Cheryl Ladd.

:smack: Wow. Duh.!

Lou Ferrigno must have taken a few too many steroids. What a drama queen. Trump forces Penn to name two people to bring back to the the boardroom and Lou acts like its a personal attack? WTF is wrong with this guy? Hasn’t he seen the show for cripes sake? George understood the game and took no offense at all.

I don’t know what it is with women’s teams on Apprentice. Every season its the same old song. The claws come out and everybody is at each others throats from ep 1.
