I think that’s the name of the show, the one on Monday nights with Charlie Sheen.
Last night’s episode dealt with Sheen contemplating a vasectomy, so it was full of masturbation jokes. During the final scene, the screen went black, with no audio and only came back at the final moment right before the closing credits. When that happened, I remembered that the same thing happened the week before, at the same exact spot.
I suspect that this had to do with the furor over “wardrobe malfunctions,” and that the final jokes were deemed too risque by someone. I’m curious to know if this was a local thing (southwestern Arizona) or did anyone else notice that the final joke had been blacked out in these last two episodes?
I got the last bit of the show. I think. No black screen anyways.
No black screen here either.
I’ve seen that happen before on various shows (usually in the bottom of the ninth or when Jack Bauer’s about to do something cool). I figure it’s just a hiccup somewhere in the station>satellite>antenna>cable>reception chain.
No black screen, but the video got a little jerky for the last couple of minutes (it was jerky for the first couple of minutes of the next show I watched, too.) I agree that it was probably just a glitch in the chain somewhere.
Some might think that a black screen would be preferable to this show, which, so far as I can tell, represents nothing more than the triumph of junior high school boys’ locker room humor. In the search for the lowest common denominator this program approaches that goal.
Here’s the probable answer: the control room guy at your local affiliate, in an effort to see why this show is as popular as it is, tried to watch the show in its entirety, but couldn’t make it. Falling asleep, his falling head hits the Transmit button, temporarily halting transmission, but also waking him up. After getting his bearings (he’s disoriented from the head bump), he discovers they’re off air and hits the Transmit button again, resuming the show before it ends.
Because you’re the only one in your immediate vicinity who actually watches the show, there are no calls of complaint to the affiliate, so the station manager isn’t aware of what happened. The guy, then, is allowed to man the station the following week, only to fall asleep again and have the same incident recur.
Just a theory, of course.
Weird, it happened again last night. I can’t imagine the final joke of the last three consecutive episodes being so much more raunchy that they blank it out each week. You may be right ArchiveGuy.
