Changed some items in services.msc and now every time I take my laptop out of standby it says “computer has been locked and needs to be unlocked.” Any idea which service I need to turn back on to make it go away?
Presumably this some version of MS Windows.
For Win2K and XP password lock on screen saver/standby is not controlled in services, this is controlled by screensaver and/or power settings.
For the two versions I mentioned, the quick way to reset is:
- On your desktop, right click on any blank area
- On the pop up menu, select “properties”
- On the “Display Properties” dialog box, select the middle tab, labeled “Screensaver”
- In the middle, under the screensaver selection drop down, there is a check box to the right of the time setting. Uncheck this box if it is checked, and click the “Apply” button"
- If you clicked ok by accident and closed the dialog, repeat steps 1-3
- Under the screen saver info, there is an area labeled “Monitor Power”. Click the “Power” button
- This brings up the “Power Options Properties” dialog
- Select the “Advanced” tab
- Under options, uncheck the “Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby” check box.
- Click “apply” then “ok” to close the “Power Options” dialog
- Click “ok” to close the “Display Properties” dialog
- Enjoy your unlocked settings
I don’t use Vista at home or work, so I don’t know off hand if the method is identical for that version, but I am pretty sure the settings are controlled in the same areas.
That fixed it. Thanks so much.
