Cheerios Nurturing Corner

Woohoo, I got to feed an OP to the hampsters for the first time!

I copied it.

In (fittingly) the corner of the back of the Cherrios[sup]®[/sup] box I bought this week, there is a section called “The Nurturing Corner.” It reads:

This makes me kind of sad, for a couple of reasons. First, I see this as part of a trend of parents needing to be told completely obvious things about “nurturing” their kids. I see public service ads all the time saying things like “Sing songs to your baby. Read to your kids. Ask your schoolkid how his day was at school.” I’m sure it actually prods some folks into being better parents, but it’s sad that we’ve reached the point where this is necessary.

Second (let me preface this by noting I had an idyllic early childhood) I feel sad for the kids with shitty parents who would never, ever do something nice like take them on a camping trip or helping them set up a lemonade stand or leave a note in their lunchbox. They must be reading the box with a jaundiced eye these days.
