Cheneys book comes out and he was right, every one else wrong

He says so. His second in command, Wilkerson has been on TV slamming Cheney . They called Cheney’s people the Gestapo . No love lost there.

Link no work. Anyway, is he copping to being gullible instead of obeisant? And how long did it take him to figure it out - only until he started getting asked uncomfortable questions?

Powell left what remained of his honor at the UN, and he knows it, too. There’s nothing he can say or do to change that, or to rebuild any.

Why are people slamming on arguably the most influential Vice President in American history?

Yeah, that’s how I feel about him, as well. He is walking evil.

He just endorsed Hilary for President. I suspect she doesn’t appreciate his support. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now that’s just plain weird.

At the risk of straining the HP analogy, this from Mr Ollivander:

ETA (on the off chance this wasn’t a whoosh): “Influential” by itself is a connotation-free term. Torquemada was likewise influential, but I’m not sure I would have enjoyed living in Spain during his tenure.

No, it’s just politics. Guessing blind I would have thought it came from Rove, but it’s not that much of a stretch.

And endorsement? Right. “Perhaps she might have been easier for some of us who are critics of the president to work with.” Because Obama has been so very hard to get to compromise and acquiesce on things. It’s an empty statement by one of the great evils of modern American political history meant to sow discord and whispering.

Fuck. Him.

There comes an abstract point, a line, somewhere in the far side of the gray area of vigorous disagreement and rationally based repugnance of methods and intent. Cheney’s career is far enough past that line as to make its location trivially easy to detect.

Easy guys. As OttoDaFe notices, I used the term “influential”. Not “good”. Stalin was extraordinarily “influential” too.

Oops, sorry, I meant that conversationally–not directed at you per se. Quoted you mainly for context of the line of thought, not to reflexively snark at someone.

Oh, not only that, but my initial reaction was similar to ‘that’s plain weird’, then I remembered the subject, then an icy grip seized my heart and…

ETA: Fuck Cheney.

Not weird but evil. Trying to sow discord between the president and the secretary of state, in order to weaken the current administration.

And it’s bullshit. If there’s one prominent feature to Obama’s personality, it’s the willingness to work with and compromise with people different than himself.

Maybe Cheney feels that a woman (Hilary) could be more easilybrowbeaten by relentless criticism, but probably not. Maybe he really feels that Hilary is more conservative than Obama, but I doubt it. He’s just looking out for himself, and maybe his friends. Killing what he can, weakening what he can’t kill yet.

If Hillary Clinton was President and Obama had come up short he would have said the same thing in reverse.

As others said, he’s trying to sow discord.

Cheney is beneath contempt. A chickenhawk with innocent blood all over him. Ted Bundy looked like a personable guy and his face wasn’t as crooked as Cheney’s.

I’m totally shocked. That’s entirely more humane, honest, humble, and also more coherent and enjoyable to read than anything I was expecting from Cheney. There’s hope for him, yet!

If I were Cheney I would’ve written the same thing. “I was right, motherfuckers”

No ammount of groveling and self-mutilation would’ve earned him a femtogram of sympathy from those who hate him (for whatever real, valid, or imagined reasons). He woul’ve been called a liar because those who don’t like him wouldn’t believe him.

You go down swinging, even if you are a gigantic motherfucker.

Unless you’re a human.

I don’t know what he wrote about the Valerie Plame case (and I’m not going to intentionally read any of his book), but if it says, “I and my associates decided to reveal an undercover operative’s identity because he husband called us on some shit we made up” then I’d believe him.

He’d get no sympathy because he hasn’t shown he deserves any. But if he confesses his sins, that would be a good start.

You make my point exactly.

Again, that’s my point. Why aim for sympathy when you’re not getting any anyway.
It’s like Mao writing “I’m sorry 30 million starved to death on my account”.

Funny story:

I am one of the people who put together the new book list for the library. I had a cart full of new books to process, when a mother with two rather enthusiastic boys came in. One the the boy ran up to me and asked for “the monster book.” I looked at the book in my hand, and it was Cheney’s.

Coincidence?

If anyone is interested, Dick and Lynne Cheney will be on The View on Sep. 13th. Just FYI.

Unfortunately, wishing through a television screen for people to go into screaming convulsions doesn’t work. Og knows I’ve tried it enough times when I wasn’t able to avoid being in the room during a GWB press conference.

I’m not going to waste my psionic efforts on the project in the future.
