Somebody in the neighborhood is shooting off fireworks. If’n they could get on a schedule, that’d be better, instead of this one every 2-5 minutes crap they’ve got going on now. It ain’t helping the new to the area dogs, either.
Back when I was an irresponsible young shithead, my firework display was coordinated, we had staging areas where the next salvo was prepped. It go boom for 20 minutes then we’re done.
No fireworks here (yet). Did finally get dressed and go to the gym…to find it closed at 6pm. At least I learned their hours tomorrow are 8-4, so if I’m going to get my swimmin’ in, I need to plan ahead. At least the grocery store and Jersey Mike’s will be open so my usual Moanday shop-n-sammich will go ahead.
Oopsie, both you and Bailey take care now.
There are worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon…
Swampy (and nellie), thanks for the clarification.
OK, need to watch some basketball to justify all that money I pay Direct TV and then prepare for bedtime. All y’all take care now and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.
Hub’s friend spent last night and all day today at his local ER because he is now officially homeless and they have to have a plan before they release him.
Tony is dying. His doctors have told him that his heart and COPD are so bad that he can’t survive surgery. Tony has no family, we are his only friends and we have had to set limits. Tony gave up all of his cats but one when he moved into the assisted living place he just got evicted from.
Tony is terrified and has panic attacks so he calls 911 because he can’t breathe. Tony is on oxygen 24 hours a day.
Yesterday, Tony choose to break all the rules and smoke in his room. With oxygen. Next, he had a panic attack and called 911. They smelled the cigarette smoke and saw residue. They made their report and the care facility rightfully threw him out. The hospital can only hold him for 72 hours in the ER before figuring out what to do with him and its the middle of a long weekend.
Also, due to Tony’s habit of biting the hands that feed him, nobody really wants to do anything for him and the social worker at the hospital has already told hubs that if Tony doesn’t start doing something to help them help him, the hospital will put him on a bus and send him to a homeless shelter in Phoenix.
We will make calls and do what we can for him, but we are agreed that we will not risk having him here for even one night. We just don’t think we can trust him to not set OUR home on fire.
I’m going to go stress dust the ceiling fans and then sweep the porch.
Thanks for your understanding, I’ve heard that that shelter, like every other homeless shelter in the state is overfull. If a homeless shelter won’t take him, he will die on the street just like hundreds of other mentally ill and/or disabled folks before him and probably hundreds more in the next year or so.
It’s horrible.
Even worse is that he’s a 100% disabled vet and gets around 3500 a month so could pay for a different place but nobody with any sense at all wants to accept a resident who has demonstrated so much disregard to the safety of all of the other residents and staff.
GG and VBC don’t like it when I’m this stressed, I’ve already brushed them almost bald and they don’t like it when I drag the stepladder around because it’s kinda noisy when I open it.
Has the nearest vet center been tried? Here’s the Phoenix one.
I used the vet center neat me when my brother, also 100% disabled, had complicated medical needs combined with a psychiatric crisis while visiting me. They were helpful and also offered a welcome listening ear.
Take care of yourself first and hang out here lots!
He’s been biting the VA’s hands for as long as we have known him.
He thinks that doctors have a magic pill to fix everything and that he shouldn’t need to make any effort at all. When he’s told that isn’t how it works, he gets pissed and flounces off. Or leaves AMA which has happened more often than I can remember.
He is also positive that he doesn’t need any mental help, he’s not fucking crazy, everyone else is!
Shortly before he got evicted, the head guy at his care center, the hospice folks, Adult Protective Services and someone else who I’ve forgotten tried to have a serious Come To God talk with him and walked out saying that if he didn’t get his act together, he was fired from them as well.
Hubs has been getting some information, but we are not family and have no legal ability to force Tony to agree to do anything he doesn’t want to do. Hubs saw Tony on Thursday and made sure that kitty had enough food and water to survive until Tuesday. Someone from the home has also been checking on kitty. We are pretty sure that nobody will “notice” if hubs takes kitty away so I’ve been putting kitty on the waiting list for kitty adoption services.
I’d so much rather be dealing with a leaky waterbed.
Ugh, JtC, what a mess.
It’s certainly not the best option, but given that Tony has a regular income, an inexpensive motel room would be better than being on the street.
Many homeless people use this as a short-term solution. If I’m not mistaken, one can rent a room for up to 21 days at a time.
Wheelz, that’s an idea. Are there still hotels that allow guests to smoke? There must be. Would any of Tony’s behaviors get him kicked out?
It’s so hard to figure something out for someone who’s so noncompliant and…difficult that no place can keep him.
As a measure of how impossible this situation is, I found myself wishing he could be arrested, as terrible as that would be, because at least he’d have a roof over his head and wouldn’t die on the streets. They don’t kick you out of jail. What they do do would be pretty horrifying for someone with his issues, though.
Do you think he wants to live, JtC?
ETA: We should all be so lucky as to have friends as dedicated and compassionate as you and Mr. Cane.
