The problem I see with that is that for some reason Bill and Hillary Clinton get a pass on that.
Link?
How do you know this? Some people have apologized, but are you absolutely sure everyone is aware of the mistake, or cares about it? It only takes a couple of hundred crazies to make your life a pain in the ass. It only takes one violent crazy to kill you.
Oh, I’ll retract that comment - Robert Byrd left the clan in the 40’s.
I have a very low tolerance for people putting words in my mouth and then battering your own straw man. What I said is correct. It was a bad mistake and I’m very sorry this man was hurt. But to say that outing Nazis is wrong because one innocent man was hurt by it is absurd and by that very logic, we would have to conclude that the people pushing this idea, including YOU, should be out there every day protesting the racist policies that see innocent black people harmed in the course of trying to find criminals.
But hey, if you still want to play the ‘both sides bad’ card, then we all know which side you rest squarely on.
Yeah, doesn’t look good for you peddling that old bullshit, since that is white supremacist propaganda, along with the whole ‘Democrats started the Klan’ crap. Byrd spent the end of his life working to right his own wrongs.
Today the white supremacists are overwhelmingly Republican, or voting Republican. The thing is, if their southern ancestors of 150 years ago knew they were voting Republican, they’d be shot as traitors to the cause. If their ancestors of 100 years ago knew they were voting to give rich people tax breaks and bust unions, those ancestors would shoot them as traitors to their cause.
This is kind of the problem I have with social justice warriorship. Saying because you believe in x then you are y - and then the vague threats social shaming with "everybody knows what side you’re on - you’re on the bad side. To me it’s a very evangelical approach to discourse.
**Chimera is a social justice warrior
**Social justice kicks ass. If Chimera is ever in my neck of the woods, I’d like to buy him/her a beer! (South Chicago suburbs- let me know, Chimera.)
It should look fine for me, when pressed I looked further into the matter myself and was able to answer my own question.
A quick look at Wiki says he was in for a few years in his 20s and he said it was the biggest mistake he ever made.
A friend of mine who has hilarious observations on life refers to this in print as, “Whaa wa whomp whomp wa wa”.
For 5 days now we’ve had people on the right trying to play the ‘both sides bad’ card. Hell, even most of the Republicans are calling bullshit on it.
I’m glad that you looked into the Byrd thing and found that it was wrong. Unfortunate that you tried to play the card before looking at the truth of it.
But if you’re saying that you have a problem with the social justice thing because you got burned trying to play the both sides bad card at this late date, then I have no apologies to make.
Welcome to the club.
Fist bump, bro.![]()
I’m not trying to do anything. I don’t like racism. If there is racism in the democratic party I want it exposed and out, if there is racism in the republican party I want it out. I view all political parties with skepticism - I see nothing wrong with that. I feel that becoming overly attached to any political figures or parties is just shallow tribalism.
What in the world is making you think I’m on the right?
Like I said, there’s been a lot of people on the right, including the unPresident, who are repeating the ‘both sides bad’ thing right now, and even the top Republicans are calling bullshit on it.
But hey, let’s you and me let this rest. I’m willing to take your word for what you say here.
You’re tolerant. So for all you know, there are good people on both sides, Nazi and anti-Nazi.
Have I sinned? Please forgive me father.
ISTM that it’s better to be a SJW than a broflake.
You’re not a broflake, are you, covfefe?
I can answer for myself, as I also assumed you were right wing.
For one thing, you popped in and started talking about the Clintons, which have no relevance right now except in right wing circles that are still fixated on “lock her up” stuff.
For another, I can’t figure out what relevance liberal racism has with this thread. Chimera was called an SJW because he is anti-Nazi. Those are the current racists right now. Why is historical racism by liberals at all relevant?
It just reads too much like a tu quoque argument, which would put you on the Right (since the “tu” is the Left). Those arguments are used a lot in these threads by right leaning Dopers.
If you’re just upset at racism, then I assume you do not think there is anything wrong with Chimera being anti-Nazi? And that you also think “SJW” is a silly insult? Anti-racism is a part of social justice, after all.
I’m only going to respond to this part - the other portions of your post aren’t worth my time; a little bit of reading of the thread should make the relevance of what I posted clear.
Social justice to me is eliminating the obvious unfairness to and needless suffering of all people. Being a social justice warrior, for lack of a better term, is being more concerned about judging people than curing societal ills. I think a lot of people that engage in this type of moralsing behavior do a disservice to progress.
That’s just what I feel, if it makes me a bad person in some peoples eyes then so be it.
