Chocolate what???

OMG I am doomed, doomed I tell you!

I’m trying to eliminate sweet treats from my life, trying to desugar, having fallen off the healthy eating wagon lately and been indulging in Reese’s peanut butter cups and the somewhat healthier but still massively caloric Justin’s chocolate - hazelnut - almond spread – spooning it right out of the jar, sigh. I’ve stopped buying them, ignored any cravings…

And then a friend told me about chocolate hommus.

Chocolate hommus.

Delicious, nutritious CHOCOLATE HOMMUS from Joseph’s.
I thought at first, “Hommus? And chocolate? How can this be?” But I was at the supermarket today, and found it in the hummus/hommus case, so I decided, what the heck, why not give it a try? I got home, unloaded it, pulled the lid off, sampled it…

 OMG OMG OMG OMG

Please, please stop me from sitting down with an 8 ounce container and a spoon and gobbling the whole thing at one sitting. Granted it’s lower-calory and lower-fat per spoonful than the Justin’s nut butter, but still!

I also picked up a container of Cedar’s balsamic caramelized onion hommus, and by golly that’s hella good too. I’d be noshing on it right now, except I’ve been noshing on it and my little dish of crackers for scooping it up is empty…

It’s a desert topping! No, it’s a floor wax! It’s BOTH!

My wife and I have one chocolate truffle apiece every night after supper. A period on the day’s eating. Been doing it for 15 years and lost about 80 pounds in the first seven years and kept them off since.

Will wonders ever cease to amaze? Holy crap I going looking for that chocolate hummus tomarrow. I may go into diabetic shock over this. Tell me what the sugars and carbs are. Please.

ETA, I couldn’t get in your link, it appears I live in a good food desert.

Looks like 7g from sugar, 3 from beans, per 2 Tb serving, more or less. So, not horrible, but not sugar-free, either.

I bought it in a Market Basket supermarket (regional chain), and the link is for Stop & Shop, also a regional chain.

This webpage gives the nutritional breakdown. It also rates it a D+ for health, but I think that’s stupid. Scrolling down to the nutritional chart, you’ll see a bunch of other foods rated, and the hommuses are all but one rated much worse than the yogurts, even though the yogurts are significantly higher-calorie.

Well, it is almost thick enough to frost cupcakes with.

I thought this would be about chocolate starfish.

Moving thread from MPSIMS to the Chocolate Society… er, Cafe Society.

And now I’m craving chocolate.

I thought it would be about this.

Is there any point of any day where you do NOT crave chocolate? Just wondering; you might need to see a doctor for that deficiency if it exists.

I saw the thread title, and I was like, Reminds me of my reaction when I saw that container of chocolate hummus in Stop & Shop the other day.

The worst bit is? I don’t think it was even the same brand as the one in the OP. I hope I’m wrong, because that means there’s two companies that decided chocolate + hummus was going to be the hot new thing.

I shop in S&S regularly, and one of the websites where I found Joseph’s chocolate hommus was a S&S page, so I think it’s possible it was the same brand you saw. I will have to go there soon, and do some research, natch.

In Googling around on this I came across at least one website promising to tell you how to make your own.

Really?, now that just not fair. I hate you peeps. All those choices and multiple places to shop.

Ugh, this is sriracha beer all over again. You can’t just take two good things and slam 'em together like that! What’s next, garlic donuts?

storms off muttering to himself

Yep.

I could go for garlic donuts.

Garlic donuts actually sound great to me, but I’ve had what is essentially deep fried donut dough served with garlic water, salt, and cheese on it, so it doesn’t sound so weird.

But what is this about sriracha beer? Yuck. I love hot peppers. I love beer. I haven’t met a hot pepper beer I like yet.

I experimented with making chocolate hummus a few weeks ago.

Result: My version was not bad, but not as nice as Nutella or similar spreads. The flavor was good, and went well wtih both salty and slightly sweet dipping media (pretzels and graham crackers, respectively). The texture was grainy, as you’d expect with hummus; I found that a bit off-putting, as it contrasts with the creamy smoothness I’m accustomed to from a sweet spread or dip, but I believe I would get used to it.

With some tweaking, I think I could make a version that would become a regular thing. I don’t think I would ever get it as smooth as I would prefer with my present equipment, though.

I like the texture of whipped peanut butter. I think I might like the texture most of all. If I can’t find any I’m gonna try to make it. I made regular hummus. Is it proper to spell it with an ‘o’ or ‘u’?
