Chores you Abhor – an MMP about household responsibilities

Since I discovered Downy Wrinkle Remover, I almost never iron. I just hang up the wrinkled item on the shower curtain rod, spray it, and leave it for an hour or so. Wrinkles gone! I’ve heard that wrinkle remover is actually just fabric softener and water, and I’m going to try this, but I haven’t yet.

I hate glass shower doors so much that if the place I live has them, I remove them and replace them with shower curtains, which are much easier to clean–just spray them with mildew remover regularly and throw them in the washing machine once in a while.

My favorite chore is laundry, because I love fabric and seeing it get clean, plus the machine does most of the work. My least favorite chore is anything where I have to contort myself to get it done, such as cleaning the back of the refrigerator or behind the toilet. I practically have to lie on the floor to clean the floor behind the toilet. I also hate changing the sheets on my bed, because I have a platform bed and have to hoist up the mattress and rest it on my knee while putting on the fitted sheet. It’s a pain.

Actually, nowadays most shirts, T-shirts and blouses will not need ironing if you simply let them dry on a hanger, no additional products required. Now that I think about it, this may be different in the US, where fabric softener is often added in the dryer… hrm… but then, it works with my un-softened clothing too. A thick hanger will be better than a thin one for this purpose, I always make sure to have some of those available when I’m doing laundry.

A trick I’ve used in hotels (doesn’t work as well as ironing, on some kinds of embroidery or on thick clothing) is to vapor up the wrinkly but clean blouse: open the showerhead on Ridiculously Hot with the bathroom door closed until the shirt gets humid, let it dry. Some (those kinds of embroidery) need a few pulls to stretch the embroidered area, most not even that. It’s faster and works better than using liquid water.

Oh, yeah. cleaning the oven is also on my list of hated chores.

At work. Still lacking caffeine.

Off to rectify that.

Finally caught up. Chores I hate… well, we hired a cleaning service so there’s very little I have to do. I don’t mind straightening up ahead of the cleaners coming. I like how afterwards KT often says, “It looks so nice in here when it’s all straightened up and clean.” So we’re going to work on getting him to take 5 minutes a day to take care of things so it stays that way. I’m the neat freak in the house so that would please me greatly. I don’t like washing dishes, but I love to cook so it’s a necessary evil as someone else said.

I almost always wear sweaters to work so no ironing. KT wears button-up shirts, but in an engineering-type environment so they’re more casual button-up shirts than things like Oxfords that really need ironing. So into the dryer for 5 minutes and then hang them immediately and they’re fine. I generally like doing laundry but I hate our washer so it’s more of a chore right now than it should be. KT tried to level it a bit so it’s better about spinning, but I still think there’s a new, non-front-loader, non-high-efficiency washer in our future. Something that can actually handle a full set of queen-size flannel sheets. Or more than two towels at a time. Washing blankets has become a hated chore because the washer is so bad. It won’t wash two because they’re too heavy, but it won’t do one because then it’s unbalanced. ARGH! It. Must. Go! I want to like doing laundry again!

blurf. that’s how my day is going.

Sattua, you are 32 weeks pregnant. Even if you didn’t have a dislocated rib you should still be exempt from floor-cleaning.
Yawn. Sleepy day. Out food shopping this morning and took Mum out for lunch because it was her birthday yesterday, and nothing is more relaxing than lunch with your grandbabies. Pork loin was on sale for a dollar a pound. I have a really big one in the crockpot with salsa on it for making tacos. I also have multiple heads of cauliflower, potatoes, and broccoli rabe. I’m sure this all combines to make a decent meal somehow.

You’d think I would be. For about a month prior to this, I’d made it a rule to only clean floors when my husband was home to see it.

He’s gonna live with crunchy, sticky floors for a while now.

It was actually his favorite chore, when he was single. I’m not sure when that changed, but I don’t mind have crunchy sticky floors if I get extra cuddle time with him in the evenings. We’re relaxed like that.

My clock has stopped. I’ve been working for 9 hours today, but the clock only reflects half of that.

No, the zombie business I’ve got down pat.

It’s the door-to-door salespeople. Mama always taught me to be polite, so I invite them in.
But then they start to talk, and talk, and talk. until something inside me just… snaps…It’s horrible.

On the other hand, now I’ve got alla these neato vacuum cleaners, and brushes, and stuff.

That’s punishment for Chicago winning last Sunday. How are the toes? did you keep them warm?

Crap. So I ignored my sinus headache last week and now I have a sinus infection. So I’m lying on the couch, covered in cats, suffering and unable to do any chores so the place just gets more disgusting.

Blurf…I am sick and headed back to bed. Managed a couple of hours of e-mails updating things and I am done. Should not have got out of bed this morning as now I have the shakes and the dizzies and he almost puckeys. Yuck.

I am feeling so under the weather that I don’t even care that my house is a shit tip with random crap everywhere. I like order. The house is usually in order. I do not care that right now it isn’t. Urgh

Goo Gone is also good for removing price tags, especially from the backs of books. It’s the only thing that’ll get rid of those “take up half the back cover” UPC stickers that college used bookstores like to use.

Barkeeper’s Friend is The Best Stuff to use to clean a flat-top range. It’s a lot cheaper than the stuff that comes with the stove, too.

I’s tahrd. G’night.
“It’s four in the afternoon!”
I said I was tahrd!

Confession: I have never cleaned an oven.

Bwahahahaha!

**kapri **- my daughter is talking about getting a platform bed - I’ll mention to her what you said about changing the sheets.

Lessee, how was my [del]Monday[/del] Tuesday? Work was meh. But I ran a couple of errands after, including copaying for my new specs. **FCD **came home early - he’s not feeling well so he’s crashed on the couch. Dinner tonight will be whatever.

Today’s lunch meeting was a bust for me - they brought in chili. I hate chili. So my lunch came from the vending machine - a granola bar and a bag of pretzels. ugh. The last time these guys did lunch, they did tacos. Also something I don’t like. I don’t like chili powder or cumin or peppers… Guess I should make a note of which meetings will require me to bring my own lunch.

That’s all. Is it Firday yet?

Wait - you people don’t have self-cleaning ovens??

Hi.

Work is even crazier than usual - I’m so inundated that I’d be less under water if I moved to Queensland…!

Chores… I hate all of them, to be honest. So does my wife. Kids…? Genetics at work. :stuck_out_tongue:
That’s what hired help is for, no…?

**Bumba **-- your cover is blown! You’re Wolf from Pulp Fiction!

I am having a very bad day. We have really made no progress on the weekly task that’s due on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. (This is what makes about half of the company’s money so it’s not something that can be put off. I’ve spent the majority of the day waiting for people to make decisions and get me updates. I hate waiting. I had to go for a walk to cool off. It’s 9 F out. I literally cooled off.

I’m supposed to be going to a pot luck dinner for my choir tonight. I missed the one last month, and we’re not restarting choir until March. So I really really wanted to go to it tonight. I miss the people, and I miss singing. But now it’s not looking like I’ll make it, and I feel like crying. :frowning:

**BBBobbio **send his regards! He and the Mrs are in town scoping out places to live. He just called to ask me about one street in particular and I had to tell him it wasn’t an ideal location… at all… He’s already planning on being a geographic bachelor.

And he starts work on Monday - doubling the Mumper population in St. Mary’s county!

Howdy Y’all! I make gooooooooood soup! Gooder than goooooooood even!

Two mumpers in the same county. Wonder if that will bring on the Apocalypse!

That’s all I got for now.
