I don’t have a fuck to give about the former illegality of adultery. As odious as cheating on one’s spouse is, it is idiotic to equate it with the rape of a child, which pedophilia (not hebephelia) functionally is.
I’ll die before I cheat on my wife. But not all adultery is equivalent; sometimes there are reasons that make it, if not excusable, at least understandable.
It might help to make a 2x2 grid. Label the columns “illegal” and “legal”, label the rows “immoral” and “moral”.
Put pedihilia, scams, adultry and con men in the grid. Do you see the difference now?

Umm… sorry to be dense, but which goes in the two moral boxes?
illegal, immoral = Pediphilia
illegal, moral = (Scams or con men?)
legal, immoral = adultry
legal, moral = (Scams, or con men?)
It really should be ‘Good/Evil’ and ‘Lawful/Chaotic’ if you’re going to go that route. For legacy reasons.

Am I free to go now?
I’ve seen what happens when they go out the door. Better use the bedroom window!

There are two ways this story could have developed:
Someone tipped off NE, and they followed him on his buisness trips for a couple months, then taped him meeting a female friend. Fairly standard procedure, I assume, for the tabloid type of journalism, taking advantage of an opportunity as it presented itself.
Someone at NE decided they didn’t like Hansen, and decided to dig up any kind of dirt they can. (Possibly even hiring a lady to entice Hansen. The story on the Washington Post/Entertainment section states that he had been dating her for only four months.)
I don’t think #2 absolves Hansen vis-a-vis his wife in any way, but journalists “creating” news? Not professional.
The entrapment angle of #2 is unlikely since the woman is alocal news reporter . But if you want to entertain all theories, maybe she’s in on it for all the national publicity she can get.

Heh. Ok. So the morning DJ’s are just speculating for the chuckles of it all. That’s why I asked for the Straight Dope.
I believe the technical term for that would be a ‘Honey Trap.’

And by ‘technical,’ I mean ‘dated and overly poetic’

Where do you want to put them? I’d put scams and cons as illegal and immoral. The point is that most people aren’t going to put adultery in the same box as the other three.
My post was directed at those up thread who think he got what he was doing to others.
He also sexted:

Kristyn showed close pals a couple of steamy photos that Chris took of himself and then emailed to her. The photos were taken shortly after the first night Kristyn met Chris in a bar and went back to his room for a night of sex.
One of the images shows Chris standing in a hotel room in front of a large mirror. He’s wearing only a white bathrobe that’s completely open—showing off his entire chest and midsection—with one hand concealing his genitals
I wonder if he also asked her to (blank) his (blank).
