Christian the Lion. (I have dust in my eye.)

B3ta.com showed me this video today: Christian the Lion. The bond between humans and animals really is special isn’t it.

Wow. That was very cool!
Damn dust.

Enyone else reminded of a similar scene from the Earth Chilrens’s series? Ayla and Baby the cave lion ?

Awwwww…
I want to be hugged by a lion.

I actually had that video as a child, whole thing on VHS. I remember it being really long, and when it starts they show Christian as a cub, growing up some in the city, et cetera.
I don’t know what happened to that video, I really wish I knew if I still had it. Then again, my auntie has a lot of old videos I used to have, there’s a slim chance she might still have it…

I still remember the first line of the song/intro to the video.

o/ "This is the story of Christian the lion..~" o/

Yes, that was my attempt at making music notes. :stuck_out_tongue:

That was very cool.

::sniff::

Allergies.

I just received this in an email yesterday. Very cool…but I can’t help wondering if the back story is really true. First, one year in the wild doesn’t un-“domesticate” an animal, does it? Secondly, I don’t buy the part about the animal anticipating their arrival before they’re even on the ground.

Very awesome connection between them, regardless.

Damn hayfever!

Kalhoun - I remember reading a book about this back in the '70’s. The two guys bought the cub in the pet department at Herrod’s in London (things were much more lax then). Obviously, it didn’t work out in a London flat. They ended up sending Christian to George Adamson, who with his wife Joy had made a splash rehabilitating Elsa, the lioness from Born Free. He worked with Christian to train him to survive in the wild.

Ah, Herrod’s. I still recall their child-free policy fondly.

I am horribly cynical and hate video links to the point that I rarely click on them.

And now I’m all misty.

sniff

I sent it to my mom. Thanks Autolycus.

Scissorjack - One that should be enacted in many places, I’m sure you’ll agree. :smack:

I’m a bad person. I sincerely hoped that Christian, upon leaping up, was going to rip out the throat of one of those dudes to punish them for their astounding stupidity and thoughtlessness.

It’s not a charming story. Its a sad one that most likely began with a hunter shooting Christian’s mother to sell her cubs on the open market. :frowning:

::sniff:: Excuse me, there’s a lot of dust in the office or something today. That was just cool.

Any video that manages to somehow overcome my bone-deep hated for “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” must be pretty darn sweet.

Seconded.

Its a frackin’ LION! Even the tame ones freak out and EAT YOUR FACE.

Thirded. It’s a sweet video, to be sure, but these guys bought a LION from HERROD’S for their LONDON FLAT??? What the everloving fuck were they thinking? Idiots.

I just rewatched “Born Free” last night. It’s sweet, but also sad that the lion was living among humans to begin with.

Well, it was a cub at the time, and it was better for them to have it than for it to be stuck at Herrod’s.

It sounds like the lion was successfully reintegrated into the wild, so while the lion’s beginning was sad in a sense, I think it was a happy ending for all concerned.

It’s HARRODS, people.

Lot of dust around this evening. Did you know that dust can make a tear jump out of your eye and dangle off the bottom of your glasses?
