It is a warning and a promise, God will not stand with you if you continue and will remove your lampstand, these actions and support have nothing to do with God or Love but a abuse of His holy name, repent and be restored, continue and go dark.
I get the metaphor but as punishments go, “I will remove your lampstand” sounds a little underwhelming.

Only reason I can think of would be to hide the fact that he had fired the rifle, trying to keep gunshot residue off of his hands. Which would mean he intended to fire before hand, a factor in determining premeditated murder.
