Christie endorses Trump

Kind of surprising, but shows a certain canniness. Trump is in position to win. The next most likely is Cruz. (And yes, I do mean in the general, cry more.) It is probably easier to restrain Trump from a war with Mexico or whatever, than to stop Cruz from hollowing out the nation’s institutions and whatever else he has planned. Christie can hitch onto the winning team and maybe try to be a relatively professional figure in this amateur hour administration. Also, Cruz probably wouldn’t hire someone from a “liberal” state where they get their power from nuclear plants instead of fossil fuels.

Yeah, that’s gotta be the most unenthusiastic endorsement I’ve ever read. Pathetic.

A slogan for the national temperament, indeed.

Wow. I knew that DT was playing to the racist crowd, but, um, being endorsed by LePage actually makes me like Trump less. Is that how it’s supposed to work?

OK, whew! I can go back to my normal level of Trump loathing!

I did vote for Obama twice, but I’m not a Democrat, and I don’t like anyone in this campaign cycle on either side. I may end up leaving a blank ballot for President.

What kind of person do you think Trump will be looking for as a running mate?

I nominate** Loopus**!

(Wait, is that not the reaction you sought?)

Someone strong, with a powerful personality, and the ability to keep him in check; someone with awesome intelligence who is deeply self-actualized and empowered; someone who won’t be put in a corner; someone who is a Rebel and has a fiercely independent mind.
Basically all the drivelly slop the media presently assigns to the male idea of the ideal woman, but not necessarily female. Vulgar would be a plus too.

I believe him when he says he’ll bring in a politician to help him navigate Washington. He’s kind of a loose cannon so I can’t be sure what he’s thinking but I’ve said elsewhere that Kasich would be an awesome choice. Not getting many enthusiastic replies to that though. lol. Kasich would balance out the personality of the ticket in a way Christie wouldn’t. Trump doesn’t need a brawler sidekick.

Hey, leave Ben Carson outta this…

So, we’ve got Cruz on 1st, Nut’s on 2nd, and I Got Dough’s on 3rd…

…and in other news, the buffet at the Trump Taj Mahal is still All-You-Can-Eat…

There is also a New York Times story dated today which describes Lepage on 2/19 at a meeting of R governors, basically a week ago, as saying that Trump must be stopped and is a disaster for the party.

WTF is going on?

“Bullshit Politics”

Just like the pundits and many Republicans in 2008, they will put party before country. And I do think that the order has come for all to better choose Trump now, so they will all have to act as supportive of Trump because they must now choose the less damaging (in their opinion) poison.

Meanwhile, Paul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Trump’s disciples. He went to the RNC delegate and asked him for letters to the committees in Damascus, Penobscot County, Maine, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Augusta. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Paul, Paul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you, Lord?” Paul asked.
“I am Donald, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
The men traveling with Paul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. Paul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus.

Well, if that was the narrative from the GOP, that would be still bullshit.

I saw this movie before with Palin.

I don’t think it will really help at all as Trump pretty much has the blowhard vote sewn up already.

It’s strictly for Lapages craven interest. He is just part of a line that will go from Christie out past him to the fetid swamp of every power hungry coward looking to cash in on the phenomenon.

Would it be possible for the R party to just reject Trump as a suitable candidate and tell him good luck, you can run independent, but we have standards, or a morals clause or something. It doesn’t have to be real, just invent a document and postdate it.

I believe the rules for the party are decided by delegates at the Convention, which in a scenario where Trump is going to be the nominee, would mean he’d control the party and could block any special “no Trump” rule from being passed. Indeed, since he’d control a majority of delegates, conceivably he could do the opposite and change party rules to take power away from the “establishment”.

Christie was on This Week to discuss his endorsement. It was… truly awful. At least Trump is entertaining, this was just sad.

Christie was asked how Trump was going to make Mexico pay for the wall. Christie’s response was, “Just wait, Mr Trump will tell us soon.”

Christie was asked about Trump banning Muslims from the US. Christie’s response was, “Well, I disagreed with that at first, but now he has walked that back to banning non-citizen Muslims.” Asked if he supported that policy, Christie responded, “National security is a big issue in this campaign and I’m glad Trump is talking about it.”

Christie was asked about Trump’s position on entitlement reform, since it was a big part of Christie’s stump speeches. Christie said, “Sure, Trump doesn’t have a plan, but I was the only candidate that did. Can’t criticize Trump if nobody else has a plan either.”

It was the weirdest interview I’ve ever seen. Christie simply couldn’t explain why he hated Trump two weeks ago, and couldn’t explain why he thinks Trumpbis right now. I kept expecting Christie to break character and say, “George, you’re right. I can’t endorse this guy. I can’t name a single policy that Trump has talked about that makes sense.”

It’s a silly game that happens in hotly contested primaries. As candidates drop out they’re expected to endorse one of the others still running. In this case Christie is doing it to take a dig at the GOP and make an influential friend, but it’s like the handshake at the end of each match in a tournament. This year it’s going to look very weird in the general for the Republicans. I think for some of the GOP they want this over with soon, even if Trump is the nominee. There are others who would be willing to torpedo Trump because they’ll turn their the GOP strategy to retaining the majority in congress and be happy to stonewall a Democrat for 4 to 8 more years.

It’s unspoken that I’ve noticed so far, but I think there’s a strong GOP establishment dislike of Trump because he doesn’t sound like a small government guy, which is all their masters really want in the first place.

watch this video, starting at 10:00, to see clips of Christie viciously attacking the idea of a Trump presidency.

It’s a puzzle how he could endorse him after these comments.

“He has no business being President of the United States.”

You say that as if politicians were sincere in their statements.

You say that as if politicians have no principles whatsoever.

Sure, that sounds weird to say, but Christie has gone from being a fairly sane jerk to an insane mega-dick and trying to say he hasn’t changed.
