Unlike Britney Spears this singer has, to the best of my knowledge, not shot herself in the foot on numerous occasions.

Quite the opposite in fact. She does not act like a complete and utter twat in public, attack photographers, or shave off her hair and hang around with the likes of Paris Hilton while flashing her punani for all to see.

Christina get married, has a child and remains stable and while she may have peroxide bleached hair who is to say that it doesn’t make her one hot woman.

Plus she’s far better looking than Spears was, then or now.

Her legs are better also. :smiley:

No she hasn’t, both her and Britney emerged as potential pop stars at a close time. So when they were both popular Christina’s people thought her “image” needed an “edge” so her next move from jailbait was to a strong sexual young woman. Britney did he same, it’s like the Cold War of pop music.

Britney used to be hot. That’s the sad fact, because now she is held up as a display of public ridicule. I remember I recently saw a reply of an old SNL which Britney hosted in her early days and all I could think was “OMG, that girl is beautiful, I wasn’t mistaken when I was younger. What the fuck happened to that girl?!”

Christina Aguilera happens to have gone into labor yesterday. Word is yet to be released as to whether or not the child has been born, or if mother and child are healthy and happy.

Well I started the thread on impulse because I was watching * Christina Live in Concert* and it just occurred to me how much more stable she was as opposed to Britney Spears.

I have to disagree with you on just one point- Britney could if she really tried and listened to people who cared about her (Timberlake?) stop being such a dork.

She doesn’t listen, she behaves like a spoiled child time and time again, she is/has totally fucked up her career and while she may still have loadsamoney she is going through it faster than shit off a shovel

Plus she can really sing. I mean Britney can carry a tune well enough but Christina can get huge singing gigs as long as she takes care of her voice. Whatever Britney has to offer is on the verge of expiring if it hasn’t already.

I don’t know who had the edge RE dysfunctional families- Britney’s seemed to be enabling, but Christina has been up front about her father being abusive. And as for shooting herself in the foot, it almost seemed CA was going to swan-dive with her Xtina phase, BUT she got over it & stabilized when Britney was just starting her downward spiral.

I was gonna say that…I’m no fan of her music, but Christina definitely has pipes…Britney couldn’t sing Mary Had A Little Lamb without a producer’s help.

When Christina reinvented herself as “XTina,” complete with dyed black hair, orange skin fron excessive tanning, a nose ring, and all sorts of unflattering skanky fashions like her leather chaps, it was a really horrible look for her. She was trying too hard to be grownup and sexy, to distance herself from the bubblegum pop of her first album and her squeaky-clean “cute but wholesome” image from that time. She was regularly the butt of jokes on late night shows, most of which referred to her as a skank or a slut, based on that new skanky, slutty image.

However, she reinvented herself again as a blonde glamour girl with a real 1940s pin-up sort of look – sexier than ever, yet classy as well. Her most recent album had better songs that really showcased her amazing pipes, especially some retro-inspired tracks like the soulful “Ain’t No Other Man” and the sexy, playful, swingin’ Andrews Sisters pastiche “Candyman” (both of which were terrific singles, this indie music snob admits). Plus she’s married and having a kid, and stays out of trouble. She went through what seemed like a “youthful rebellion” phase (and it did negatively effect her career at the time), but she got over it and got better. I like her, and hope she sticks around a while longer.

This explains exactly why I have all of the sudden found Britney to be fascinating. I’m not interested in the plastic manufactured image of most pop artists. That includes Christina Aguilera.

Leaving the looks and craziness out of it, from the beginning, Christina clearly had a better voice and a real voice. Britney was just another good looking girl who can sing better than average and was a willing participant in her record companies well run publicity machine. Somewhere it went wrong and now she appears to be a wreck. In 10 years she might end up being a VH1 special “Where are they now?”

Christina has a great voice and occasionally does material I enjoy, so I can really enjoy how great her voice is. In this case, it looks like Christina has won if it was a competition.

Back when I was in High School, two cute young singers came along that were very popular. One had an above average voice, but nothing special and the other had an incredible voice, but more often, her songs did not expose this fact. In that case the one who did all kinds of weird media stuff and strange things ended up being more successful. I am of course talking about Madonna & Cyndi Lauper.

Madonna, like Britney was nothing special as a singer, Cyndi like Christina has a great voice. BTW: Cyndi also went through a blonde glamour girl with a real 1940s pin-up sort of look and was more sexy than at any other time. My Cite!

Comparisons between the two were silly- Christina is a great singer, a real singer-Britney is not. Christina could have had a singing career, albeit a different type one with different fans, if she were butt ugly- Britney could not have.

While she did look ridiculous during her Stripped phase, the album sold 4 million copies. I’m sure she’s fine with all the criticism considering the album’s success.

And I still say the winner in the pop tart battle was Mandy Moore.
