I thought Britney looked sexy in that black outfit at the VMAs, for that recent performance where everyone made fun of her the next day. I think a little bit of extra weight suits her, since she was quite skinny throughout most of her younger career days. The outfit might not have been the most flattering thing she could have chosen, but I rather liked her in it. However, it was a pretty half-assed performance, and she has been a trainwreck ever since.
Ludy, Ludy, Ludy, Ludy, - you don’t even - you’re glib, Ludy.
Not being snarky, I promise: can I have some recommendations of Christina’s songs?
I’ve heard exactly two by her, Genie in a Bottle and that one about being beautiful they had a kid sing on ER this week. Neither is bad, but they aren’t markedly better than anything I’ve heard by Britney.
I feel compelled to note that leather chaps are not skanky in and of themselves. For example, I don’t imagine anyone would blink if someone like Sheryl Crow was sporting some chaps. Of course, Sheryl would be wearing pants underneath, not panties.
Obligatory picture links:
Neither of those pictures are of chaps.
And don’t get me wrong, I think MORE women should wear leather chaps. They can (and should) be sexy as hell, with or without pants (or panties) underneath. But hers were multicolored leather with her stage name “Xtina” written down the legs, with panties underneath, and she was unattractively thin at the time too, which didn’t help.
I really liked “Ain’t No Other Man” and “Candyman,” both off her new album.
Also “Hurt” - another ballad that uses those amazing pipes of hers.
I think Nelly’s Tilt Ya Head back featuring Christina Aguilera is also worth a mention. I like that song’s “fizz”.
I’ve also seen a clip of Christina Aguilera in the studio with Herbie Hancock, obviously just doing a first run through of a piece, and even then she’s amazing.
Here is Christina Aguilera’s official YouTube Channel, or RCA Records’ channel which has some of her videos on it.
Holy crap, no kidding. Riding the range would have a whole new meaning.
Christina definitely has the pipes, plus she seems to be in the music business for the long haul. Britney is just a trainwreck.
I’ve never quite understood the comparison between the two, to be honest. Being right within their target demographic, I’ve seen both live.
The fact is: Christina is a singer. A GREAT singer. Easily one of the best voices in popular music in a long while. Quite obviously, a much better singer than Britney.
Britney is a performer. Sure, her voice isn’t that amazing, but the girl could put on a show that would entertain even the most cynical of observers. She could dance like nobody’s business (why is this not considered a talent as much as it used to be?) all while forcing you to stare at her, unable to look away. Call it what you want, but that girl had an amazing “aura” around her when she’d perform.
I think Christina is better suited for smaller, more intimate venues. When I saw her, it was in a giant stadium type place and frankly, once you got used to how mind blowing her voice was, the show was boring as hell. And, it’s worth pointing out that Christina sings against a backing track, to make her voice sound stronger (most of the time, at least)- I’m not saying she doesn’t have an amazing voice- she does. Maybe it’s that she lacks the charisma to fill a huge venue with energy, I dunno. Britney, on the other hand, would BOMB in a smaller venue- she is totally well suited for a large stadium.
The two aren’t alike- Christina is a singer, Britney is a performing. Both have their place.
Skanky FTW.
I like this observation. It is a good summary. I have no clue if Britney will recover or not. I suspect, down the road, Christina might end up a Broadway star. I really appreciate how good her voice is.
I am too old to appreciate Britney in a stadium, I want to see dinosaurs like Zep and Pink Floyd. So Christina is far more interesting to me.

I think that turned into the Herbie Hancock release Possibilities, where he duets with various artists. His track with Christina is her version of “A Song for You”, and it’s fantastic, in my opinion. You can hear a sample on Amazon , I’m not sure if it’s the best 30-second snip from that track, but you can hear the quality of her voice. (It’s also available on DVD, if you want the visuals )
I’ve always like Crisitna better. My favourite song, not that I’m a fan, is “Falsas Espernzas”.
When Britney appeared like this on the MTV awards, some people spoke of her looks (forget about the show) like she was the deformed offspring of Sauron and Shelob, but as cracked.com says “if a co-worker looked like this, you’d hit on her”. Hope she comes back to this universe.
Honestly it makes me sick to hear people constantly bag on Britney’s appearance. I think she is very attractive, has always been attractive, and has a naturally beautiful and symmetrical face. I hate it when people trash her for her weight too - I think her weight is fine. As I’ve said before, I like her looks better the way she looks now than how she did when she was a skinny jailbait teenager.
It disgusts me how quickly people turn on celebrities. Like vicious dogs, really. They forget that celebrities are people too, with real lives and real problems. Sure, there’s always the “they’re rich and their lives are still fucked up” justification that people will throw out, but assuming that money can guarantee freedom from emotional or drug-related problems is extremely ignorant. I think most people who trash celebrities do so out of jealousy, and because it’s a socially-sanctioned form of vitriol.
For what it is worth, no one in this thread is bagging her appearance. We do seem to have a near consensus that Christina has a really great voice and Britney, not so much. That is hardly bagging on Britney’s looks.
Are you just venting or do you think we were bagging on Britney in this thread?
Jim
Nobody was really bagging on her in this thread but I’ve seen it happen in others. And there are only about a million websites and blogs that deride Spears as trashy, fat, ugly, disgusting, low-class, and other hurtful things. You’re right that it’s not particularly relevant to this thread, but I still felt compelled to bring it up since Britney was being discussed.
