Christmas Baking in the MMP

This term just makes me smile. Thank you!

If there were rumors to the contrary, they’re wrong. I am still here, still not working, and not enjoying it. Meds are helping with the depression - yes, I’m one of the 36% of Americans with mental health challenges this year.

Resumes and applications go out, rejections come in. For the next couple of weeks, there will probably be no new postings thanks to the holidays - there haven’t been any since Black Friday.

At least I had working on PWAISDN’s salon to distract me. He moved to a “suite rental” building that just opened. It’s been an interesting experience. We first toured the place while it was a rough construction site back in April, and they expected to be open in June, no July, well hopefully August, still waiting for the city to inspect and sign off in October… His first day in the new space was December 2. :scream:

Our problem was that the suite came as a very blank white box with cabinets/counters and a shampoo bowl. (There’s a saga about that device and the four places it was set up on a concrete floor) So we come in with paint, plants, sign graphics, and more stuff than you’d ever expect. He’s a color correction specialist, so he has about 150 different brands and tubes of hair color, now intricately organized on surprisingly expensive wall racks. Then there’s the 60 or so pictures I hung plus the door, mirror, and window graphics - a bit nerve-racking when the large piece with his logo cost $250.

He went from “We’ve discussed what I want to do since April - could you please add a rider to my lease allowing it?” to the owners wanting to use his space in their promotional materials to attract more tenants. Now he’s in the “Where did I put my ____?” phase.

@overlyverbose, I wish this for you and your dad too. I hope you have lots of chances to tell him you love him.

This is Boo in spades, guys, so give me a PM poke if I miss responding. Like our dear, dear nellie I’m not ignoring you on purpose. I’m 1, tech daft and 2. have a brain injury so I’m spacey as proverbial [insert favorite #$%@ here].but I do love you all to pieces and don’t want you all to not know that.

Just got all boosted up.

The way the national rollout is going is pure insanity, but I gotta say- my local GP is on it… Invited to book an appointment on the day the rollout was extended to my age group, with a convenient slot the same week, and once there I was waiting all of 30 seconds, despite showing 15 minutes early.

They were also all almost unnervingly chirpy. Hopefully because they were all on overtime, rather’n drugs.

It really does say something when I post about the difficulties of buying clothing that fits that you- in a whole 'nother country- know which company I’m talking about… I wish they’d at least kept some of the basic range, like shirts that don’t ping buttons off when fastened.

It is evening and I should be heating up dinner and sitting down to some Dopesick (which I only recently started watching), but there is some minor drama with my customer and I’m waiting for my employee to draft a response email so I can review it. She could just send something and it would likely be fine, but she isn’t the greatest when it comes to written communication and sometimes she likes me to review her drafts. This particular situation is a touch complicated, and I can maybe help with the clarity/tone of her reply. I don’t mind. As soon as that’s done, though, I’m off to the kitchen and living room.

Same here; that’s been my policy for quite a while. If I miss a call from an actual person, they will leave a message. If someone new seems to be fixin’ to call me, I usually ask them to text me first so I can put their number in my contacts list.

Your mention of chili inspired me to look up recipes, but after a while I realized that what I’m really after is some sloppy joes (without the bread). I may have to get some ground beef and sloppy joe sauce over the weekend.

The Seattle allergy place says to allow 15 days for medical records to arrive at the new clinic and do not call before then! Then I have to get scheduled at both the new clinic and the hospital, since the shots will be given at the hospital’s infusion clinic even though they’re not infusions. I’ll need to get the shots immediately after returning from Louisiana on the 14th (supposed to get 'em on the 11th) and don’t know where to schedule them. I may have to go back up to Seattle. Argh. Why can’t this stuff be simple?

I called the eye clinic and got a live person at the optical shop. Yay! Only she couldn’t help me, so she sent me to the contact lens tech. She, of course, didn’t answer. Her VM says she’s new and in training, so please be patient, and she’ll try to call back in 2 business days. I just don’t understand why it’s ALWAYS a struggle to get info or make an appointment.

I know this is small potatoes compared to what so many of you are going through. I appreciate the chance to gripe.

I used to do that, but I was missing calls from doctor’s offices, which often come from numbers other than the main one I have on my phone. I love the offices that let me sign something to say they can leave VM’s! Some offices don’t, and some are docs I was referred to finally calling me back to schedule an appointment. It’s SO hard to get ahold of those people, I hate missing their calls. I have a great robocall blocker, though, and very rarely get spam calls.

Howdy Y’all! Been a nice and slothful day here at da cave. We did have one bit of excitatement, however. We, cause we’re such romantics, decided our present to each other this year would be a new garage door opener. I figured it would not get installed until after Christmas. Lo and behold, I got a call askin’ if today would be a good day for them to come and install. So, the guy got to da cave a little after nine and was gone just before eleven. We have a fancy, high falutin’ brand new garage door opener. The old one was original to da cave and so was about twenty-six years old. It still worked but was bein’ kinda sluggish as of late. Outside of that, nappage was achieved and sup got et.

{{{Wordy}}} my mom had in-home hospice and it was a good experience. Still it sucks to deal with it all. Glad your dad still wants to eat. Sis and I devoted ourselves to carin’ for mom those last three months. Whatever she wanted to eat or drink, we did. Heck, I even said if she had asked for a quart of moonshine and a pack of unfiltered Camels, I would have gotten them for her.

gotti sorry you haven’t found employment yet. Yay, however, for PWAISDN’s new shop.

sunny, Kronos is a third party timekeeping system. The ransomware attack is said to affect somewhere north of 100M people. My company got something up and running within a couple of days of the attack and the meetings were more about how to use it and announcing tweaks.

Moooooooom, your making of chili for FCD despite not ever eating it reminds me of my mom making iced tea for the family without ever drinking it or me making fresh coconut layer cake for my big bro without ever taking a slice.

Where does all this snot come from?!
That is all.

The snot fairy? ::d&r::

Irked, came home, suited Nelson up for the rain (meaning no dog park this afternoon), et and am now slothing (is too a word!). Off for the weekend. There are still quite a few little things to get ready for the trip, but I’m hyped!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Evening all. Put the car cover over the guy’s car that was damaged, the lady at the storage place helped (it was like unfolding and putting on a giant mattress pad; you’ll never get it back in the box it came in). Let the owner know and hopefully that’s that. Also got mail and paper stopped for my time up at Brother’s for Xmas, so those two little jobs are done. Escaped nappage so should sleep well tonight.

Nut, glad you got your shots with little hassle; mine went well too, guess we’re jsut lining right…

gotti!! Good to see you around. Hope the job picture improves after the new year, sounds like you guys did a bang-up job on the salon, hope it pulls in good business.

Dicey, really wanted to cruise Spain and Italy this coming year, but looks like I’ll have to push it back again. Still hoping for the Alaska cruise in May, I want to add a couple extra trips to that. But I would like to get back to London someday, really like that city.

Good evening to all and I’ll catch up with you on Firday.

I was surprised by a $150 check from our electric co-op. It seems I joined an energy efficiency program and this is the payoff. Nice little pre-holiday bonus!

We ordered Chinese for supper, with enough left over for tomorrow’s lunch. FCD has a pre-surgery appt at 8:30 tomorrow. Roxy’s school is ZOOMing a program tomorrow at 10:30 - I’m guessing their Christmas pagent. And I need to go to the convenience center soon - maybe tomorrow afternoon?

And we need to decide on boat insurance. We’ve gotten 3 quotes, ranging from $850 to over $1800. I need to make sure the two lowest ones have matching coverage before choosing which one. And some documents are being overnighted to us for signature - then we have to do the wire transfer and the boat will be ours. Transactions in the time of COVID are complicated…

I also need to check my recipe for French Toast casserole - we’re going to our daughter’s for breakfast on Christmas Eve and we’ll do our family gift thing since we’ll be at my brother’s for the big exchange gathering. In fact, I need to check with my bro and see if he wants me to bring anything… details, details…

He’s slammed right now, but is expecting and not enjoying the prospect of the usual January doldrums. People may get haircuts, but not color. There will be a minor blip in color for Valentine’s Day though.

I need to figure a place to put some pics of the new shop. It really is an amazing transformation that we completed in under two weeks.

Heaved. Gordie had a bit of a metdown last night. Roommate stopped for gas, so he was a lone for 1 minute, and he started crying(with the pandemic and work schedules, he’s only been alone maybe 24 hours in the last 2 years).

That is cool.

Great photo of the snow covered mountains and orange trees in fruit.

Talky so very sorry for you regarding your dad. Losing a parent is so hard. I hope he shall be comfortable and less afraid.

Free money is always a good thing moommm

I have a neighbor that just had rotator cuff surgery and I have been driving her as we have the same Dr and scheduled our appts 15 minutes apart. Today was the first day she drove me. X-rays show no broken bones but Dr. said it’s very swollen and inflamed but nothing to do except try to stay off it as much as possible. He offered an air cast but I already have one. I already take anti inflammatory pills for the knees and have pain medicine should it become necessary. I am happy it’s not broken but it hurts all the same. Also got the last set of knee shots good for at least 6 months but I always get way longer or have in the past.

Front room and kitchen are nearly finished painting and it’s looks really good so far. The real estate lady is comIng by in the morning but the place is still a disaster what with all the toolboxes and my various piles of everything that came off the walls and still clothing to go through.

Sunny how long you gotta lie flat? Must be terribly boring.

Good luck on the job search Gotti and hugs to shoe.

What kind of boo boo did Echo get Sari ?

Glad to hear this, even though it seems sometimes bones heal faster than soft tissues do. My ankle is still mad at me from 40 years ago-not broken but still swollen.

Keep it elevated and let others wait on you. Surely Buddy can bring you the remote in his little mouth?

I have a new computer and can finally post on the Dope again! Good to be back. I’ll be baking croissants made from scratch, and Japanese Christmas cake(if I can find Oetker Whip It) I’ll also be cooking up a family Christmas candy we call Boston Creams. It is so rich.

We’re having a Secret Santa gift exchange at the orifice, with a $20 limit. The person I drew is fond of Red Vines. On her ‘wish list’ she also mentioned chocolate truffles. You’d think that if anyone had big-ass containers of Red Vines, it would be Costco. Nope. I called whatever Cash & Carry is now, and got a recording that said, ‘We’re too busy to answer your silly-assed question about whether we have big-ass containers of Red Vines.’ (Well, not in those words.) So I ordered them from Amazon. They said I’d have them Sunday. The gift exchange is Tuesday. I did get some Trader Joe’s Boozy Little Chocolate Truffles and some cocoa truffles. Mrs. L.A. suggested I get some of thos high-end truffles I got her for her birthday. Oh, and I can buy her some while I’m at the boutique.

I had a little Swiss Collony sausage and cheese from the gift box we got, and some smoked salmon from the Christmas party, and some nuts for dinner. A couple of glasses of wine, and a Jack.

I bought the ‘prime rib’ for Christmas today. It’s actually Choice. The Choice roast was almost $90. Prime would have been $200.

Office supply shops such as OfficeStaplesMaxDepot or whatever they’re called now should have heaps of Red Vines in those big tubs, for future reference.

Office Max and Office Depot have merged, so far as I understand it, but Staples is still a separate rival to OfficeDex.
