Chuck (9/20/2010): "Chuck vs the Anniversary"

Heads up, the new season of Chuck starts tonight! It looks like this season is going to be about Chuck’s search for mom, who was revealed in last season’s denouement to be (of course!) also some kind of secret agent. More importantly, the Buy More got blowed up real good. It looks like Jeffster are going to be out on the street. Or are they?

Chuck and Morgan go on a world-wide search for Chuck’s mom, while the Buy More gets a new life, and Ellie reveals a secret.

I completely forgot about Chuck.

So I have House and Chuck to look forward to tonight, and Dexter in 6 days!

Poor Chuck can’t even get a job at Vandalay Industries. I guess he wasn’t cut out to be a latex salesman.

Best bit in an episode full of great bits: Instead of the weak and passive Linda Hamilton from Terminator we get the kick-ass Linda Hamilton from Terminator 2.

Morgan always brings the funny! The sexting bit was humorous, but good lord–those upskirt shots of Sarah reaching for her phone with her feet were quite gratuitous! I’m not complaining, mind you.

Lundgren’s “I must break you” line was really forced in there, but it was inevitable. Harry Dean Stanton as the repo man also seemed out of place and didn’t really go anywhere. I wonder if we’ll see more of him.

Was hoping for more Olivia Munn. They didn’t give her much to do and her character had no personality. I’m guessing we won’t see her again since there is supposed to be a new “Greta” every week.

Momma Bartowski kicking butt was cool. I wonder how long they’ll keep her separate from Chuck and Ellie.

Fun episode overall, if a little uneven. The snippets from the rest of the season look promising.

Wow, thanks for the heads up, I have to watch this ASAP!

Woohoo! Chuck is back!

Last season they had an Ivan Drago joke. This season they have Dolph Lundgren. It’s almost as awkward a juxtaposition as having Bruce Boxleitner standing in front of a Tron poster (which I don’t think they actually had, but I wanted it to happen).

And I did wonder if the Vandalay Industries job would be for selling latex.

Did seem a waste of Harry Dean Stanton, though.

This episode was sorely lacking in the Awesome department. Not that I’m complaining about the new hot bitchy Buy Moore employee, but I kinda liked the idea of Morgan dating Casey’s daughter. Could have been a good source of comedy. Anybody know if Jeffester will be returning to the show? Jeffester on the lam sounds awesome.

Edit: Dolph Lundgren didn’t look well to me.

I saw Jeff, Lester, and Big Mike in the opening titles, so that bodes well for their return, somehow.
The new hot bitchy Buy More employee was “Greta” played by Olivia Munn, and I believe it was a one episode deal for her. A different actor will play “Greta” every week. Some kind of weird CIA thing.

I have heard that Morgan will indeed start up a romance with Casey’s daughter. That will be fun.
Sarah was as hot as ever.

Anyone catch the Predator Handshake in the beginning with Chuck and Morgan? Chuck says, “are you flexing?”

“If you die, you die”

19 years later, and I still want to be Linda Hamilton when I grow up.

So what would be a good song for an outlaw Jeffster to perform?

Some suggestions:
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood
Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi (though they already did Blaze of Glory)
Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood - The Animals
Hard As A Rock - AC/DC
Over the Hills and Far Away - Gary Moore

Renegade by Styx would be perfect.

Chuck looks more grown up with his new haircut.

I hope the Old Spice Guy has a recurring role.

Silver fish hand catch!

I agree with whoever said it was uneven, but I guess that was because it was setting up a lot of new stuff - and they still haven’t even set up Jeffster and Big Mike yet (I’m so glad they’re coming back). Basically, I don’t have much to say about this episode, but it bodes well for the rest of the series.
