Chuck Season 5 Thread - Final Season!

Yvonne tweeted that her tears on the beach were very real.

Which line was that?

I think it was pretty clear Sarah would recover at least a good bit of her memories, they didn’t need to blatantly spell it out or have it come from some silly Snow White style kiss.

But that does beg the question, does this mean Morgan will eventually remember there are FOUR Indiana Jones movies?

I will really miss this show. Thanks for the Wienerlicious memories.

Lies. Lies and slander.

Other than that, I agree. One of the interviews I’ve read regarding the finale were the creators just giving in and saying “you can’t please all the people all the time”. No matter how it ended, there would be people griping. They filmed significantly more than was shown, so the DVD should have an extended cut.

I loved that Jeffster came the day. Lester didn’t sound too bad at first, until he hit the chorus. I was hoping for more cameos, even if it was flashbacks, but the show always had budget issues to contend with.

Me too. I can only assume we’re supposed to believe that the kiss worked, but I was expecting something like “Five Years Later” on the screen then showing them with working on a case with 2 or 3 wee ones hanging on to them/sitting on their laps as they typed and talked through strategy.

The show ended with two people meeting and starting to fall in love. How is that not a happy ending?

Come to think of it, those were the last intersect glasses, and they only had one download, but c’mon, like they couldn’t eventually rebuild the things, if even just to try Ellie’s (admittedly absurd for real life, but probably not for the show) plan to use the intersect program to restore her memory. It’s not like the intersect hasn’t been rebuilt a time or two before.

Where they ended was good though, it’s just something I thought of.

the intersect wouldn’t be so dangerous if EVERYONE had it. killing the project would be doing mankind a huge disservice.

i liked the ending even though i have mixed feelings about the lack of a “in 10 years” scene.

It wasn’t a happy ending, at all. It left the possibility of eventually there being a happy ending, but since this is all we are getting that doesn’t mean much. Wiping Sarahs memory is the equivalent of a “it was all a dream” ending, it wipes out everything we loved about the show.

emphasis added

Perhaps you should amend that to “it wipes out everything I and like-minded fans loved…” Because obviously “we” doesn’t work as there are just as many who liked the ending as disliked.

Well i am not really arguing on whether it was good or bad, it was mostly very good. I am just saying it wasn’t happy.

I disagree. It was very happy. It shows that it really wasn’t the intersect or the spy stuff or the extreme circumstances they found themselves in that lead to Sarah falling in love with Chuck. She just fell in love with Chuck. And she’ll do it again.

Love the ending.

Given how little respect the writers gave the intersect’s continuity over the years, it seems a little silly to worry about this. If the show went on, in the next episode, we’d hear that, oh, we forgot about this other intersect, or oh, Chuck’s dad left this other one hidden in the basement, or oh, this genius just made the intersect 3.5, or some other hand-waviness that would reset the whole thing as needed.

I mean, does anyone even remember that in the beginning, the intersect was just a data compiler that loaded everything in the NSA’s and CIA’s databases into someone’s head? Meaning that everything the intersect knew was freely available to at least one of those two groups. The intersect just made it easy to access. They quickly moved from that to “the intersect knows stuff no one else does” to all the kung fu silliness. It was one of the most transparent and flexible plot devices ever.

I’d like to add that I thought Ellie’s plan (though well-intentioned) was pretty awful - it would be brainwashing Sarah into being what Ellie thought Sarah was like. Allowing Sarah to fall in love with Chuck again is a better choice - it doesn’t erase the sacrifice that Sarah made to rescue Chuck, and it acknowledges the real attraction that Sarah feels for Chuck.

I would have liked her to have recovered a few more of her memories…just to be sure… but I was 95% happy with that part of the finale. And the part of me that watches Disney Princess movies really wanted the kiss ot w Chuck & Sarah will end up in the right place, eventually, and while I would have preferred seeing it, at least I know it will happen.

As for the rest - I liked the emotion of the finale, but I didn’t like the details of the plot. There were a lot of things that didn’t hold up if you thought about them, but I wanted everyone to have a happy future - and they all do.

Right, it’s almost like what they did to the characters on the show Dollhouse, but that’s thinking about it realistically. Thinking about it using Chuck’s logic and level of realism, it could work. And I don’t mean that to sound like a criticism of Chuck, I like that it wasn’t trying to be overly realistic with stuff like that. That’s part of the show’s charm.

If they had justified it in a somewhat different way (indicating that they were restoring Sarah’s actual memories, by using the ‘good’ Intersect to repair the damage that the bad one caused), I wouldn’t have had a problem with the idea, but yeah, what they were talking about doing was much more like “Dollhouse”.
