Chunky Girls

If that’s the case, we’d better all just tattoo numbers to our foreheads then. Perish the thought that someone would describe me as, um a bloke who wears glasses, or something.

Though I guess if I met someone who said they recognised me as the Speccy Twat I’d be a bit pissed off.

I don’t know about Robert Crumb, but yes- girls and young women ARE getting more chunky. And it’s about fucking time. It beats starving themselves to death, which is what they so often to do stay thin.

Watch the Nova documentary “Dying to be Thin” and then come back and complain about “chunky” women.

He didn’t complain. He was making an observation. Misguided, maybe, coupled with his lack of typing/grammar/english skills, he sounds worse than he could’ve.

But I notice many of the subsequent posters started making fat jokes instantly that are a hell of a lot more offensive than the OP did - in all his posts, actually.

I think you’re all too quick to jump on his case, here.

what’s funny is that there seems to be more “oooh, you’re going to get so slammed” posts than there are posts slamming him.

Some of those Crumb girls are perfecto!

Well, I figured you’d think so, Trunk.

Well, I’m going to salute you. It’s hard to learn a foreign language, especially when you’re not learning grammar rules in a classroom setting. You’re seeking out options (like the SDMB) that allow you to speak and read and participate in your non-native language. Your grammar will improve, and who knows…maybe you’ll learn a thing or two while you’re here.
(I wish I had the balls to participate in a French message board.)

As for the fat business, I wouldn’t touch that topic with a ten-foot pole. You couldn’t pay me enough.

Canvas Shoes, you managed to articulate exactly what I was thinking - thank you. Regardless of my weight, I prefer to be viewed as a human being, not merely a (potential) sex object. There are plenty of people I don’t find sexually attractive whom I consider to be worthwhile in many other ways. People don’t exist just to be ogled, for Pete’s sake!

MCPs?

It’s an historical reference:

I know you are being sarcastic, but I hate that attitude. Women do not exist for the sole purpose of pleasing men.

They exist for the sole purpose of pleasing me. And the sooner the world recognizes that indisputable fact, the happier we’ll all be. Well, the happier I’ll be, at any rate.

Actually, they do sorta. It’s just plain old human instinct. The whole oggling/viewing women as potential sex objects thing. It’s not something many men can stop. True enough, some are not very polite about it, but it’s still there in any case, no matter what you dress it up as.

I don’t want you to lose your subscription, and since you haven’t followed up your original post with anything offensive, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Just be careful what you post, especially when you start a new thread and especially especially in the Pit. Vague titles like “Chunky Girls” can get you into trouble, because whenever you appear (and I stress the word “appear”) to be criticizing a particular group of people, be they overweight people or lawyers or members of a specific country or religion, people will be breathing down your neck for it. Sometimes this hostility will be warranted, sometimes not. Just think think think before you post a new thread on something like this.

That said, welcome to the Boards as a member and I hope you stick around!

Or perhaps his first language isn’t English?

The OP seemed to be more an inane observation, not an attack. I don’t understand the pile on.

Maybe it’s you.

It doesn’t help that people are getting way too lazy in this country. As if exercise is torture or something. Sheesh.

You should know better than to post stuff like this in the pit–a ton of people are going to ream you for not knowing better than posting in the pit.

Maybe one or two will actually be offended.

Male Chauvinist Pigs.

I just think its kind of funny that someone who says their first language isn’t english is familiar with R Crumb.

You know, it’s funny this should appear here today. Yesterday I’m driving down the road when I see a guy walking up the sidewalk. Big old beer gut, wearing his shirt with maybe the 2nd and 3rd buttons from the top buttoned, but none of the rest, and it’s breezey, so his shirt is flapping in the wind. That big old hairy gut hanging out for all the world to see, and it’s obvious he doesn’t care, and what’s more it’s obvious that neither does the rest of the world. And that’s fine with me, except…I can’t get away with that shit. If I dressed in such a way that my physical imperfections were not covered I’d be getting  from all directions. In fact, I’d probably get some of these  And why? Because I’m a woman. And no matter what else I am, or do, I have been socialized to be concerned with being esthetically pleasing. To care about it, even if I can’t achieve it. Otherwise, I’m just letting myself go. And we all know what that means. But it’s not just me who has learned this lesson. Because for the most part everyone I know or meet feels the same way. But the difference is that I seem to be the only one who thinks it’s wrong. I’m not a grouch, I don’t think we should go out of our way to be unattractive. But why should I have to feel guilty when I run to the grocery store in a grungy sweatshirt and torn jeans, when my husband doesn’t have to? I wanted to pit that guy yesterday, but decided it was just too petty and stupid. So thanks for giving me a place to vent my steam without starting a thread about the poor dude walking down the street minding his own business.
