I had posted about this in LJ but someone said I should do some bragging on the board as well, so here we go.
My daughter had her first date this evening. With a real live boy.
It was a school dance and it was a formal dance. HEAVILY chaperoned, thank God.
But since we’re on our own now and I’m paying some pretty heavy child support for the other two boys we don’t have a whole lot of money right now. No, that’s not quite right. We don’t have any money right now.
Luckily, she had a few fairy godmothers. One of her teachers and the wife of another one knew about the situation and decided to take her out shopping and bought her a new formal dress, shoes and earrings for the dance. And this evening before she got ready, they also took her out to get her hair and nails done. Gratis. There aren’t enough words to express my appreciation to them.
The transformation was stunning to say the least :

How lovely! So, first in a series. My daughter’s been dating for almost 4 years now, and my husband still freaks when she’s with her boyfriend. I guess it’s rough on daddies. Hang in there - you will survive and she’ll make you proud.
As I mentioned in your journal, she is very lovely.
Now…wanna borrow my patented Dad Whup-Ass Louisville Slugger[sup]TM[/sup]? Now that Sakura’s 18, I can’t really justify its use. You gotta keep the boys at bay, Euty. It’s your duty as a father…
Ain’t it grand, the way that happens? Terrifying, sure, but also awe-inspiring. I couldn’t believe the transformation my Hawklette made from a baggy-cargoes-wearing, power-tool-wielding Queen of the Tech Shop to a stunning young woman of elegance and taste. You gotta kinda wonder if you’ve actually done something right, or if it’s just Nature’s Way. Well, I gotta wonder, anyhow. You’ve obviously done something right, Euty. Not only have you got a beautiful gal, but some very kind, generous friends.
Well, I’ve got teenage boys. And if one of them brought home your “Cinderella”, I’d heave a huge sigh of relief 'cause I’d know at least they had great taste!
Wow! What a change. Euty, I was aware of your sons, but not so of your daughter. She’s an attractive young woman. I wish y’all the best (and particularily you, who will deal with the transition from kid to young near-adult).
