Cinema 2007 - What You're Looking Forward To

I’m eagerly awaiting seeing Bill Nighy and Geoffrey Rush in one Pirate movie.

As much as I hate to admit it, I am actually looking forward to *Transformers *and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Yes, even despite the 98.4% likelihood that both will be utter crap. Such is the power of my inner 13-year-old.

The Pirate movie
Fantastic Four
Ghosty Rider
SPiderman 3
The Simpsons
300
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Shrek 3
Transformers
Harry Potter
Mr. Bean’s Holiday
Beowulf
Sin City 2

Simpsons, for sure.

Grindhouse (the Rodriguez/Tarantino thing)

I’m also keeping an eye out for whenever Michael Moore’s look at the health care industry (“Sicko” at IMDB) comes out. That’s sort of an issue I care about.

Also, it looks like Apatow has a movie coming out starring Seth Rogen, also with Paul Rudd, two guys I find real funny.

I also recently saw a trailer for a bowling movie, but I’ll be damned if I can find the name of it.

Sidenote: these threads crack me up every year. It seems like everyone bemoans the lack of creativity, and heavy use of sequels, coming out of Hollywood. . .and then every year, it’s sequels that people look forward to.

My only must-see is the third Pirates movie. The Golden Compass is a probable title for me, though I’ll wait for a trailer before I officially list it as a must-see. For most other major event pictures, I’m waiting for the reviews, particularly on The Simpsons, The 300, Shrek 3, and Spiderman 3.

All the comic movies. “300” most of all.

Grindhouse

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Umbridge will make Nurse Ratched look like Mary Poppins, and the battle in the Department of Mysteries will look amazing on film.

Also anticipating FF2 and Simpsons, but not nearly as much so as HP5.

The Simpsons’ Movie and Diary of the Dead.

Wuh?

I just checked out the imdb page on this. This is unbelievable. I had not heard a word about this until now. My only objection is that it should have been based on Grendel by John Gardner.

Just going through the Upcomings at IMDB for the next few months, and including films that are technically 2006 releases, but that I have no prayer of seeing until '07:
Notes on a Scandal
Children of Men
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
The Hitcher (yeah, I deserve to be mocked, but I adore Sean Bean)
I Could Never Be Your Woman (I’ll wait for reviews)
300 (I have some worries…we’ll see)
Sunshine (as in Cillian Murphy brings it into my life…;))
The Last Legion (I’ll wait for the reviews)
Some movie about Pirates
Some movie about a wizard
Some movie about a family from Springfield

I’m hoping that Paradise Lost 3 will be out in 2007…with a happy ending.

Besides Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End and the 5th Harry Potter movie:
The Invisible
The Messengers
The Number 23
Resident Evil: Extinction
The Dark Is Rising
The Martian Child even if it’s wrong to make the MC straight
Case 39

And if they’re released this year Whisper and Skinwalkers.
Ass For A Hat, were you talking about the West Memphis Three documentaries? If so, me too.

Yes. I had read that a theatrical release for PL3 was planned for 2006. I assume that the filmmakers are awaiting further developments in Damien’s case.

Pirates 3 (colour me worried)
HP5
Simpsons (I am very wary)
Ratatouille
Sicko
Evan ALmighty
Oceans 13
despite the dumbass name, Live Free or Die Hard
Spiderman 3
Paris Je T’aime (really for the coen bros segment only)
Shrek the third
Charlie Wilson’s War (tom Hanks)
Fred Claus
American Gangster
Beowulf
Untitled Farrelly Brothers Project
Things We lost in the Fire (Benicio Del TOro)
Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp)
Blink (Leo Di Caprio)
No Country for Old Men (COen Brothers)
Michael Clayton (George Clooney)

Most of the same…

Spider-Man 3
300
Grindhouse
Pirates 3
Beowulf
Transformers
Live Free or Die Hard
Evan Almighty (never saw the one with Bruce, but Steve Carell rules)
Ghost Rider
Knocked Up (the Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen/Paul Rudd comedy)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (now I gotta see the first one)

Stardust
Breach
Perfume
Beowulf
Paris je t’aime
Battle in Seattle
Come Like Shadows
Atonement
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Spider-man 3
Sin City 2
Shrek 3

Am I the only one looking forward to Southland Tales? I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a complete disaster of a film, but I cannot wait.

Is it still forthcoming? I was super-psyched because I loved Donnie Darko and I like most of the cast (I’ll argue with anyone who says that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson isn’t a talented and charismatic actor with loads of potential to get bigger and better). But it garnered awful reviews at Cannes, and last I heard Kelly didn’t have a distributor lined up at all.

Still, if it’s the sci-fi/action/comedy/musical it’s been described as, wild horses couldn’t keep me away.
