City of Heroes -- superteam, anyone?

Ryle, cross your fingers and try getting the latest drivers for it. Can’t hoit.

Okay. FedEx says they delivered my preorder. I’m going to pick it up at my drop point, then I’m going to go crank her up. I’ll post when.

Important: To see if I’m on,
/friend La Pucelle

To talk to me,

/tell la pucelle, Hi!

The comma in the /tell is important.

Hey E-Sabbath, when you get a chance could you post that info on this thread as well as your character’s archetype? Thanks.

My new-ish processor/video card upgrades seem to have gone OK and not set fire to anything. so I’m definitely in. I got the pre-order disk but never installed it. I’ll be getting the retail version in the next few days and posting in the official joining thread when my character creation is done.

I’ve intentionally avoided all MMORPGs, even EverQuest, partly because I couldn’t afford it until recently, and partly because I was wating for the genre to mature a little. I very much like the concept of your character depending mostly on his own abilities rather than uberloot, so I may have to give this one a shot. World of Warcraft looks appealing too though, so I dunno… I’ll still have to mull it over and observe for now.

Best Buy is selling it now too here in Nashville. Installing as I type…

Well let’s hear it already! How is the retail version? Is it worth the money? Does forming a super team rock or what? How much is the monthy fee anyway? Have none of you posted because you’ve been playing for 4 straight days and your eyes are glued open, or because you’ve all dragged yourselves out back and hung yourselves in frustration and despair?

I can’t speak for the others… but for me, my posting has been waaaaay down the last few days. I got the retail version on Tuesday on the way home and have played every day, every chance I get.

There’s another thread on this here with information on the superteam we’re starting up – at least I think we are, I’m not in it yet.

I have a tech Defender (radiation/radiation) named Super-Collider on the Virtue server, as well as a passel of other characters there and on other servers. I’m devoting most of my time to Super-Collider right now, although that may change. I’m having a blast picking up teammates and just playing, running missions and patrolling. I’ve spent most of my time in Atlas Park and Galaxy City, the two start areas, with some time in Kings Row, the next area up. I have yet to venture into Perez Park in retail. I don’t want to go there without a solid group of level 10s.

Archetype balance is very good. Putting together a team with all blasters is a recipe for disaster – despite their damage output, they cannot deal with large groups of enemies, particularly if there are bosses with stun or paralyze abilities. You need blasters and scrappers to deal damage, you need tankers to hold the bosses’ attention, you need defenders to boost the team (or heal them) and you need controllers for crowd control.

The best teams I have played on thus far have had two tankers, me as defender, two controllers, three blasters. No scrappers, but successful nonetheless.

In short: come on in, the water’s fine.

Finally started playing last night. (Had to install a new video card.)

The game rocks. I highly recommend it. Everyone one on Virtue seems nice enough. I’m still getting used to the keyboard/mouse interface, and combat, but that’s why you have the training areas, isn’t it?

Mausmagill, I found the keyboard/mouse interface awkward after 5 years of EQ and AWSD. I was able to map the turns to keys as well, so now I only have to use the mouse for looking up and down!

I filled up all the character slots on the Virtue server making fabulous outfits! I have:

Lark - Defender

Fauve - Scrapper

Frostglitter - Ice Blaster

Delila - Tanker

Grey Malkin - Scrapper

Flambeau - Fire Blaster

Amalthea - I forget!

I think I saw you last night.
