Cleveland Mini-Dopefest-Oct. 30th

Last Friday night we were at Johnny Malloy’s over in Lakewood. Right after Olmstead Falls High lost to Avon Lake.

Also, as I asked in my LiveJournal, what’s with having sixty million towns right next to one another? The small towns around Cleveland really need to group together (like Voltron!) instead of being separate, smaller entities existing every two miles. Really, I appreciate having an Olmstead Falls, but is there any reason to have an Olmstead Falls II, Olmstead Falls the Younger, Olmstead Falls for People with Red Hair, Olmstead Falls We Couldn’t Think of an Original Name, and Who The Hell Is ‘Olmstead’? Falls? :stuck_out_tongue:

(In my next post, I’ll focus on why some towns forgo street signs and, instead, use wooden posts as guides. ;))

I always forget how many Ohio Dopers there are. Next time, I oughta remember to check and see if anyone’s interested in a get-together.

And to think I was off Friday night and actually in Lakewood at some point. But you forgot North Olmsted.

My vote is for Saturday the 30th. If I start begging now I might be able to get the night off.

How else are we supposed to keep track of interlopers like you?

Former North Olmsted (not Olmstead, please!) resident checking in…

Actually, there used to be a town called Westview, but it was incorporated into Olmsted Falls. Olmsted Township may eventually disappear, as portions of it are periodically annexed by Brook Park (through which Brookpark Road goes), Berea, and other municipalities. Fairview Park absorbed the village of Parkview when I was a small child. Had it not been for the speed trap Linndale was able to maintain on Interstate 71, that burg would have been swallowed by Cleveland long ago. There used to be a Riveredge Township, but it was basically just a trailer park, and got wiped out when Hopkins Airport was expanded. So just give it time, and your dream may one day be realized…

Actually, the East Side is more confusing, what with Highland Heights, Highland Hills (which used to be Warrensville Township, as distinct from Warrensville Heights), and the Willoughby/Willoughby Hills/Willowick/Wickliffe cluster over in Lake County.

Hey! Spongebob is the hottest thing going.

Hmmmm? “Spongetom.” Think of the royalties.

A Saturday night would be the best for me.

Just make sure the place we choose doesn’t have a loud live band. Talking can be impossible in that kind of setting.

so THE best local band, Disco Inferno is out?
:frowning:

Saturday night (30Oct) will probably work for me, too.
Keep in mind that, by that time, there’ll be a new baby in the Grizz household. So I might only be able to stay a short while.

Is Pacer’s the place?

I presume so; it’s somewhat accessible to West Siders, and apparently there’s parking.

Sure, we could meet at someplace cool in Cleveland Heights or Shaker Heights, but as they say in Maine, “you can’t get there from here.”

Another option is Great Lakes Brewing in Ohio City, but parking becomes an issue, and the place will probably be packed on Saturday night.

BTW, you haven’t experienced confusion until you’ve been in western Lake County where you’ll find Wickliffe, Willoughby, Willoughby Hills, and Willowick. I work out that way, and still get them confused.

Where theres a Will, theres a way.
heh.

So-costumes or no?

So what is this cool costume you’re dying to wear? I live in fear that if we say yes to costumes, I will miss the last-minute email cancelling the costumes and will be the only person there dressed as…well, I have no idea. If we say no to costumes, vanilla will be sad, and the pictures will be boring. So maybe costumes optional? And I don’t think Lillith Fair will be coming…she wants to maintain her fantasy pictures of all of you! Plus she said I’m not allowed to drink yet, so I don’t really need the Designated Driver. But I’ve got a few weeks to wear her down!

I will live without costumes, but I saw a really cool one at Halloween Express, and the last Halloween party I went to was 1989 and I fear it will be too cold this Ween to look good outside.

But what is it?

I didn’t look at it long (it was in a bag), but it was some sort of cool witch-like female.

Oh, real life costume, eh?

[sub]I know i’m gonna get murdered for that[/sub]

Can we Columbus, Ohio Dopers come too? This sounds like it could be fun, and I’ve never been to a Dopefest. Could this possibly be expanded to include the rest of us in the state that’s round on the ends and high in the middle?

Sure, if it wouldn’t crowd the place.

But I could never make it to Columbus, so we are having it up here, by the lake!

All Dopers welcome.

Here are my suggestions for this soire:

Let’s set the date firm: Saturday night, October 30th. Yeah, I know, some people can’t make it. That’s what happens at dopefest and in real life. You just do the best you can.

Someone(I’ll do it if no one else volunteers) by this weekend, make reservations for a table/room for xxx at the meeting place.
If it’s Pacers, then so be it. But let’s get on it. I’ve never been there, so don’t know the lay-out.

If we get 28 people responding in this thread by this Saturday night(Oct. 9th) saying they’re coming for sure, you can count on 14 of them showing up. This is my experience in attending three dopefests in Ohio. Not banging on Ohioans, just life has a bad habit of changing your plans at the last minute.

And, HELL YES, COLUMBUS, come on up.

I would suggest that we reserve the table/room/whatever from 6-12 PM that night, if possible. That way, anyone who wants to show up early and leave can do so, and late arrivals can be accomodated.

I can be there by 6 pm. Not much earlier. I’m coming from Akron, and could pick up a few on the East side of Cleveland if necessary.

This all assumes, on my part, that Sat. 30 Oct is OK.

Let’s hear from nay-sayers.

But let’s do it now.

I am in.
Pacers would be best for me, as its so close.
I can call tomorrow and ask how big it is, how many it can accomodate.
Will report back.
Me and my son will be there!
costume or no costume.

I’m in!

I called Pacers and made the reservation for the 30th, starting at about 6 for 20 people.
My friends tell me its a big place and they have a jukebox, nice food, etc.

Its right on East 260th Street.

I am in. GrizzRich is in.
