I’m in!
If any Pittsburgh Dopers want to slip into enemy territory, I might be willing to go and provide transportation. This month appears to be dedicated to helping friends pack and move, so I could use a weekend without boxes! Yes, vanilla, if I come, I’ll bring that gentleman with me.

If I make it (and I’m still not sure of the work schedule that weekend. Right now, I’m not scheduled to work, but depending on how things go, that could change), I’m going to need very specific directions from Youngstown - I can figure out what highways to take to get to the Cleveland area (and I could probably think of them right now, if I was truly awake), but once I get to town I’ll need to know where to go.
I’m hoping that I can make it - I’ve not had a remotely social experience since I left Tennessee…that whole lack of people that I know is wearing on me.
I would be Happy to finally meet you, Siege!
How can you not bring “the man”, he follows you anywhere!
If I were still in Cleveland, I’d make a case for the Tick Tock Tavern, over on the West Side, Clinton Blvd.
When I was a teenager wayyyyy back in the '70s, they had the best ribs in town. They still any good?
I’m in. Will be there by 6:30 or so on Sat. night. And, will close the place down.
Sure, Uke, you come in here trying to get us to go to some has-been joint. Just for that, I’m getting a burger from Swenson’s tonight for dinner.
My Cleveland Zagat(I know, I know :o ) doesn’t mention the Tick Tock.
Well, shee-it. Do you think I’d suggest some place that wasn’t under the citizens’ radar?
(You’ve been to Johnny Hot Dog, right? Southwesternmost corner of the West Side Market? Best friggin’ frankfurter between New York and Chicago. Find that in yer Zagat guide, I dare you.)
I’ve been to the Tic Toc, but I didn’t have ribs, so I can’t resolve that dispute.
So now we have

I’m packing the kids off to a church-sponsored Haunted House visit at 5:00 on Oct 30, so I can make it (although I may have to leave early if Deb works and the kids need a ride home).
More elaborate directions to Pacer’s:
1080 E 260th St
Euclid OH 44132
(216) 731-7223
From Youngstown and Pittsburgh:
Take the Turnpike to Exit 187/Streetsboro
Go North on SR 14 / I-480 toward Cleveland (roads might be labeled “West” instead of “North”)
approx 10 miles
Merge with I-271
approx 4 miles
Get in the Center or Left lanes to follow I-271 instead of I-480.
Get over to right lanes to stay off the “Express” lanes for I-271.
Follow I-271 approx 14 miles past the Eastern Suburbs.
At the interchange for I-90, stay in the two right lanes to take I-90 West toward Cleveland.
approx 2 miles
Ignore the Bishop Rd exit, after which there will be a wide turn to the Right going down a hill. (They are also messing with construction, there.)
Stay in the center lane, avoiding the Euclid Ave exit and the SR 2 exit to Painesville on the right.
As the road curves Left and goes up over a bridge, Center lane becomes Right lane, stay in it and as soon as the bridge ends, head for the far right lane.
The first exit is for Babbit Rd.
Take it.
Follow the left lane of the service drive (named Lakeland Blvd but known in Cleveland as Marginal) down to just before the first traffic light. Turn left under the freeway bridge before the light, and turn Left (only possible way) onto the Eastbound Marginal.
approx 3/4 mile
Get in the Right lane of Marginal and follow it to the first traffic light, E. 260th St.
Turn Right onto E. 260th.
Turn Right immediately (up a hill) into Pacer’s driveway.
From Akron or points South:
Take I-77 North into Akron, then follow signs to SR-8, when I-77 swings West to go up to Cleveland.
approx 10 miles from center of Akron
Take SR 8 up from Akron to I-271.
(At SR-303, (the exit past Steels Corners), slow down to the posted speed limit. The Macedonia police earn a lot of revenue where the road slows from 65 mph to 55, then 50 mph.) Just past SR-303/Hudson, SR-8 stops being a freeway,(although it remains a four lane divided highway).
At the third traffic light (Highland Rd.), get over to the Right to enter I-271 just past Highland.
approx 3 - 4 miles
Take I-271 North until it merges with I-480.
approx 4 miles
Get in the Center or Left lanes to follow I-271 instead of I-480.
Get over to right lanes to stay off the “Express” lanes for I-271.
Follow I-271 several miles past the Eastern Suburbs.
approx 14 miles
At the interchange for I-90, stay in the two right lanes to take I-90 West toward Cleveland.
approx 2 miles

Turn Right onto E. 260th.
Turn Right immediately (up a hill) into Pacer’s driveway.
From Columbus
Take I-71 North to I-271.
(Just past SR-18/Market Street with an exit to Akron, I-271 branches off to the Right.)
Follow I-271 North through the high rolling hills of northern Summit County until it crosses SR-8.
approx 3 - 4 miles
Take I-271 North until it merges with I-480.
approx 4 miles
Get in the Center or Left lanes to follow I-271 instead of I-480.

Turn Right onto E. 260th.
Turn Right immediately (up a hill) into Pacer’s driveway.
From Toledo and points West
Take Turnpike East to exit 142
and follow I-90 off the Turnpike
Continue East on I-90 approx 25 miles to Cleveland
At junction with I-71, you need to exit Right to avoid I-490, but then stay to the left on the exit ramp to follow I-90 and northbound I-71 and avoid southbound I-71
approx 3 miles
curve around downtown Cleveland, ending at Dean Man’s Curve
(If you have not been through Dead Man’s Curve, believe the signs that say slow down. Stay in the two Left lanes when you encounter the warning signs and rumble strips in order to head East on I-90.)
approx 11 miles *
Follow I-90 to E 260th St exit.
Get over to Right as soon as you’ve exited, and follow it to the first traffic light, E. 260th St.
Turn Right onto E. 260th.
Turn Right immediately (up a hill) into Pacer’s driveway.
- In my earlier post I had forgoten that there is a separate E 260th exit Eastbound.
thanks, tom!
are you coming in costume?
church sponsored haunted house?
You don’t mean A Trip to Hell?
I may. My costumes never seem to work. (I did borrow a cassock and went as a priest, one time, but I don’t know where I’d find a cassock that would fit, these days. Wearing a jack-o-lantern on my head works to scare kids who come trick-or-treating, but it is pretty hard to have a conversation in a restaurant while wearing one.)
Oh no, he doesn’t. He’s in *#%# New Hampshire at the moment taking photographs! (I don’t really begrudge him; it’s his hobby and I was in Maine most of last week.)
Tomndebb, Episcopal church choir robes tend to consist of a cassock and surplice, and I’ve seen them in all sizes, including one for a fellow who’s 6’5" or so and about 4’ across the shoulders.
The offer to Pittsburgh Dopers still stands, and I may ask HJay how he feels about a trip to Cleveland, if you folks wouldn’t mind me bringing along that old friend who’s a Fundamentalist turned Atheist turned Wiccan.

Hell, I’d like to meet 'em, just to ask what the next logical progression is.

possible Siege
Againl, I’m coming up from Akron on Sat. night, leaving Akron about 5:00 or so, and would be glad to haul anyone who needs a ride. Of course, you may be forced to stay to the bitter end.
We can’t stay til “the end”, but we promise to have fun.
What is the proper way to greet a mod? Bowing?
Cecil usually asks for money.
If you could just refrain from laughing, that would be sufficient.
So…is Siege coming?
Should I tell the place less than 20?
vanilla. For now, just leave it. The place won’t need notified a final count until two days ahead, AFAIC.
I’m surprised that we haven’t heard from more Columbus/Toledo dopers.
Uncle Beer. You coming?
I hope it’s not too late to join in. I just found out that I will be free that night, I thought I was going to have to work.
