Clinton supporters: what, if anything, would convince you she should voluntarily withdraw?

Presumably most Democrats would vastly prefer ANY D candidate over Trump. So is there anything that would convince you that Clinton should step down and withdraw herself as the candidate? Eg a criminal charge for perjury? Or dropping 5 points behind Trump in polls over a two week period?

Any decent scandal free Democrat candidate should be able to wipe the floor with Trump in the general, but instead we have one of the most unliked candidates of all time, there has never been an election in which both major party candidates have such high unfavorability ratings. Instead, he has a chance, because of the arrogance of Clinton thinking she’s above all the rules (email) and her questionable dealings with the Clinton Foundation.

Bernie lost, friend.

This is all in your warped, biased opinion. The only time she should ever step down will be following her 8-year presidency.

+1

There are no scandal-free Democrats or Republicans, only politicians who are out of the spotlight. Biden – says inappropriate things, plagiarized some speech in the '80s. Sanders – visited communist countries during the Cold War, wrote some possibly sexist things in the '70s. Warren – claimed to be Native American for some benefits. None of these are real scandals, of course, but almost none of the Clinton things are real scandals either. As soon as another Democrat stepped up, the smoke machine would be trained on him or her.

Sometimes when there’s smoke, there’s a smoke machine.

yeah he did, and I never suggested that he should be the candidate if she did withdraw. IMO Any other candidate would be better than Clinton, Biden, or any of the names being suggested for her VP. It’s hardly just my warped biased opinion, check out her unfavorability rating here:

There has never been a major party candidate with such high unfavorables, this is true of both Trump and Clinton. For comparison, Obama’s unfavorability rating is about 10 points lower than Clinton’s and Sanders is around 14 points lower.

Health reasons - a sudden diagnosis of cancer or something.

…of every single person in the GOP? That seems extreme…

It’s election season and all scandals are relative. If Hillary Clinton does something that raises her negatives about Trumps, like maybe throws some babies into a wood chipper while declawing cats, then she might bow under the pressure for her to withdraw. And even then her supporters will say it’s Bernie’s fault.

We have one of the most politically targeted and smeared candidates of all time. There was also a time when Obama was really, really unpopular and called things like “communist, fascist dictator” and his re-election looked unlikely. Attitudes can change. People just need to see what’s in it for them.

Trump would conceivably have at least a chance against Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, or any of the other names that have factored into this election. I don’t think Hillary should step aside on that basis alone.

An actual indictment would have begged for her to step down and for the Democrats to find an emergency replacement. But the indictment never came and the Benghazi investigations - just like Whitewater and Paula Jones - never went anywhere. They’re just trying to set her up in hopes that she commits perjury or obstruction of justice – or so that they can at least have another investigation to those ends. I think thrice now the republicans have launched not only investigations into the Clintons but investigations of the testimony regarding those investigations. That’s not really making a compelling argument for their party or against the Clintons. It’s just wasting my tax dollars that republicans claim they exist to save.

I major criminal-like scandal is not in the cards. She’s not going to be caught eating babies or anything. There will be accusations of fiscal irregularities with the Clinton foundation but these will not influence neither her supporters nor detractors.

I agree the only thing I can see happening that would realistically cause her to step down (or cause Dems to ask her to step down) would be a serious health crisis. If she had a stroke or terminal cancer or got hit by a bus and ended up in a coma, for example. I’d be first in line to draft Ol’ Joe Biden at that point.

To suggest that Clinton’s smears is anywhere comparable to Obama is disingenuous if not seriously delusional. The only people who called Obama a communist, fascist dictator might’ve been right wing extremist news hosts with the likes of Rush Limbaugh.

Clinton, on the other hand, has the director of the FBI calling her extremely careless with top secret classified information.

Now, now! One could indicate “disingenuous” as meaning a poster was being less than truthful. Which does not occur here! The Director of the FBI did not recommend prosecution. Surely President Clinton will have people to handle such details for her.

A sudden dire health problem is the only reason Hillary should withdraw. She will beat Your Boy like a drum. Then probably knock off another loser in four years. (We all know his “competition” for the nomination.)

The very same people who were able to see past the “born in Kenya, he’s a Muslim, his pastor is a radical, it’s socialism (ACA), etc, etc”, on endlessly, will also see past the current generated scandals, I’m confident. To ignore that obvious reality is an error on the Rep side, in my opinion.

She’s seems like clearly THE most qualified candidate ever to aspire to the job to most Dems. And they are mature enough to comprehend that so much experience comes with errors, missteps, and well, history. Such is the nature of the beast.

That you should be fixated on her past, experience, etc, while Donald is in the field as the Rep candidate, reveals more about you than either of them, in my opinion!

The very biased OP had the opposite effect on me. it made me realize that even “An Indictment!” [/scary reverb] wouldn’t disqualify her.

My rightie friends loved to bring up “An Indictment!” [/bathroom echo] like it would be all over, and Trump would waltz into the Oval Office.

But I just realized I would vote for Hillary In Chains Behind Bars In An Orange Pantsuit to keep Trump in the private sector.

Right. Because there’s nothing that Hillary could do even hypothetically that would make her worse than Trump. Even if she did all the things that Trump did she’d still be better than Trump because it’s Bernie’s fault. It really is that simple isn’t it?

He had a period of bad favorability but it was never as bad as Hillary’s is now and saying “his re-election looked unlikely” is of extremely dubious veracity.

That said, there’s no way Clinton is dropping out short of medical calamity. She’s got a dream opponent and history to make.

Of all the major candidates in this year’s election, you think it’s Hillary Clinton that’s running a cult of personality?

Maybe if she shoots somebody on Fifth Avenue.

Hillary might not be the best candidate, for reasons entirely out of her control, but she would by far make the best president out of any real options we have. So she shouldn’t withdraw for anything besides real and serious health concerns.
