JFYI, I live and work in Salt Lake City. I work with the homeless and am quite familar with Emmanuel. Although I do not know them myself, I have close friends and business relations who are not only close to the Smart family but people who have worked on the case. My children and I were involved in search efforts.
In spite of everything, I would not even pretend to know what was involved in the investigation, especially the evidence that was never released.
Until you can show one shred of evidence that you have any inside information on the Smart case, I will continue to believe that you are no more than an armchair blowhard that doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.

The main difference, in case you didn’t notice it, Skid, between what Diane said and what you said is that she’s limited herself to those facts of which she’s been apprised. Those facts I’m referring to are the very few released to the general public (that includes you, btw, as you aren’t in the loop now) and the evidence you’ve presented about yourself in this thread. You, OTOH, are making pretty sweeping comments apparently not based on any facts whatsoever about the case.
I have already stated that I know NOTHING about the inside information that the cops have been working with.
YOU are the one who tossed around your so-called “credentials” and implied you knew what the cops had to work with.

See, I think you make the same mistake that you accuse the police of. You don’t know any real details about this case, but your “experience” tells you the answers.
If we can trust the news reports in this case (always a dicey proposition, at best) the investigators seem to have been guilty of trying to shoehorn the case into their notion of how it should have been, and downplayed things that didn’t fit in with those notions. They let their preconceived notions, their experience and education if you will, override what the facts seemed to be telling them.
Now you come along, more or less completely uninformed (and by the way, to paraphrase someone in this thread, I can’t stand it when poeple who have no actual knowledge of a situation think they are qualified to offer a meaningful opinion) and you think you know what happened, why it happened, and what should have been done as it was happening. (And BTW, I’m impressed! You should have been working with Sylvia Browne, not in investigations.) You let your experience override your judgment of the facts, one of which is that you really know very little about what has gone on.
This strikes me as strange, given your “experience and education”. Kind of makes me think about people and glass houses and all that.
Again, based on the scanty information available at this time, it looks to me like some mistakes were made. But hindsight is good, armchair quarterbacks never miss a throw, and every problem is easy when you know the answers. I’ll wait until some actual facts are known before I try to draw many conclusions about what happened here.
