Closing threads in MPSIMS (mild)

FAQ says this is the right place to post… but I’m not pitting Cajun Man by a long shot, he’s a great guy.

I’m just curious on the distinction between different “game” threads. The ‘Predict the Death of the Previous Poster’ thread is still going strong (heh heh), but Lobsang’s “Write a love story” thread got locked. What’s the difference?

I really am curious, not mad, just in case I start a game thread of my own someday.

Before we moved to a new server, we had several game threads that went on for pages and pages and pages. They were eating up the bandwidth and slowing down the board for everyone, even though there was only a small percentage of posters participating in those game threads. So they (the mods) came up with this rule to help deal with that problem.

However, the board has been running great lately (at least for me). Perhaps they will reconsider the ban on game threads.

Ahh, thanks!

(But I still don’t understand why Lobsang’s thread was closed… it was clever, it was short, so far, and there weren’t that many game threads floating around.)

Here here, Lobsang’s thread seemed quite good idea, and I don’t see why it should have been closed with a warning. Tho Lobsang indicated that he thought the thread might be breaking a rule, I don’t think it did, as there aren’t that many game threads at present. So Cajun Man what gives?

I was curious about this as well, but not enough to start a thread. The link to the MPSIMS sticky regarding game threads doesn’t seem to have made a rule completely outlawing them, it was just a request to keep them under control. CajunMan’s closing of Lobsang’s thread was pretty snotty, unless I missed something in the sticky thread that decided that game threads were being banned outright.

Last time the question “Why this one and not that one?” came up, it resulted in ‘that’ one being closed. I think it was just the case that the other one had been missed by the mod doing the closing.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Cajun Man did not like the post before his and so , that influenced his decision.

I don’t mind that it was closed. Thanks to those who said it was a good idea  . Although It was slightly impractical (It required that you remember the previous op and last poster before you saw the the op, and this might have people going outt and back in, affecting bandwidth)

Check the new Sticky in IMHO. :frowning:

Methinks the Administrators of this Board have a bug up their collective asses that they are not telling us about. They are over-reacting.

Huh? There are no stickies in my IMHO.

Did you mean MPSIMS?

MPSIMS, not IMHO. My bad. :smack:

I think that including a specific warning to two posters in a sticky thread was uncharacteristically bad form. Since the thread in question was deleted, a private warning e-mailed to each one should have been enough. The general warning is great, we all have to learn the boundaries. But they seem to be respected posters who did not deserve to be singled out in a sticky such as that. Sure, their rogue actions may have crossed lines, but it should have been dealt with privately.

Check out this Pit thread before you decide that the Admins are over-reacting.

Did something get deleted from said thread? I don’t see anything other than the usual political bickering.

The sticky in MPSIMS has to do with “a couple of posters [who] went so far as to investigate the situation on their own and post email addresses of the school board and faculty involved in the situation, inviting people to write them, call them, yell at them.” I didn’t see the deleted thread but presumably they were urging people to complain to the board and principal about their treatment of the teacher. Turns out the teacher may have not been completely honest about what transpired, which is what the linked Pit thread is about.

Rules on the Dope are often arbitrary and rarely consistent, but don’t let that stop you from joining our great group. Those things are minor annoyances compared with the worth of this place overall.
