I
this new toy!
Sorry to bug everyone, but I’ve just read the faq in About this Message Board and have discovered that we can put cool symbols in our posts. (I also discovered some new vb code - [sup] superscript text [/sup], and the ability to show vb script without it activating!)
I know this is probably common knowledge. I just discovered it.
Whoops. The symbols did not work in the title (a fact which cannot be checked with a Preview) oh well. It was good while it lasted.

Everyone should read both FAQs in ATMB. If somebody proposed passing a quiz on those documents as a prerequisite for registering on the board, I’d be first in line to support the idea.
The symbols do not work with Netscape 4.7.
You are right, but I believe it is ok to not read faqs if you subscribe to the one rule ‘don’t be a Jerk’
Oh my God - preskaŭ freŝa ĉeĥa manĝaĵo!

Reading the FAQs = enlightenment.
It also cuts down on the incidence of old farts like me scowling across at you, and sayin’, “Eh? You’re askin’ about what?? It’s in th’ FAQs, ya whippersnapper! Go read the things!”
Peace and harmony result. Sometimes.
Not that I am saying a faq is not necesary here - but Faqs tend to be most useful in very specificl places, such as a Harry Potter newsgroup, to stop such questions as “when does book 5 come out”.
It doesn’t work of course.
Perhaps a bit late to mention this but - I did read a faq very early on in my SDMB. It is the faq that I just read that I, er, just read.

You mean Navigator 4.7, and you’re right. Special symbols like this do not consistently work in Navigator or Internet Explorer, and the Symbol font does not work in Netscape or Mozilla. People who care about people being able to read their posts are encouraged not to use either of these features.
Okay, Derleth, I’ll believe you.
This thread reminds me of two bumper stickers I saw on the back of a car many years ago:
