CMA awards - Faith Hill pitches a hissy

…when Carrie Underwood won female vocalist of the year. There’s YouTube footage.

Anyone see this? Anyone care to comment? Anyone care?

It would, of course, help if I included a link :dubious:

That’s pretty funny stuff. I have this bizarre hatred for Faith Hill that can’t be explained. It’s always fun to see her lose.

She was probably upset because she had voted for Bo Bice.

I hope she was joking.

I would like to think she was joking because I’ve always liked her. Unfortunately, I just don’t think so. The instantaneous throwing of her hands into the air indicated that she that she thought it was a given that she would win, and when she turned away after the “What?!” she didn’t appear very amused to me.

Sad to say, but I guess she’s not perfect after all. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m just waiting for the new Faith Hill/Kanye West duet: “That Lyin’ Academy Gone Done Did Me Wrong (South Side Remix).”

Here’s a bit better Youtube link that illustrates it. It really is hard to believe. I’m stunned that she would act like this.

Just speculation, but maybe it’s a case of Faith Hill thinking Carrie Underwood thinking isn’t really a country singer but just a pop vocalist calling herself country. Yeah, Faith isn’t exactly a hardcore “country” act, but unlike Carrie she at least went through the Nashville system. It’s not the first time somebody’s reacted against this. I’ve read when Olivia Newton John won female vocalist of the year in 1974, some CMA members were so incensed they broke away from the organization. Just one year later, Charlie Rich set fire to the envelope containing the winner of the Entertainer of the Year, apparently because he was upset John Denver won.

That’s just sad when a so called “artist” who practices their art (singing, acting, directing) gets caught up in the competition aspect of it.
Is that really what you made that album/movie for? So you could win an award for it? That’s a disgrace to your profession.

I think her smile and the fact that she threw her hands into the air in a display of delight over her win, followed by her reaction when she realized she hadn’t won, is what makes her look so bad. If she had just said “What?!” without having already gone into winner mode, she could more successfully argue that she was acting out of surprise/disgust that the award was given to Underwood. IIRC, most of the people who know her seem to think she’s a wonderful person. I hope she’ll be able to recover from this without too much damage to her career.

The weird thing is that she looked right into the camera and said it. She had to have known her reaction was being filmed, right?

According to Ms. Hill, it was all a joke

:dubious:

She isn’t going to blame it on a ‘little sippy sippy’?

One modern country music star thinking of another modern country music star as inauthentic is so ironic as to be almost surreal.

Honestly, how can anyone think that this is anything other than an obvious, intentional joke based on the Kanye West thing? Of COURSE it’s a joke.

That is a funny video.

I had heard she had this inferiority complex in relation to Shania Twain, so that doesn’t surprise me.

That would make sense, but she should probably consider that many country music fans aren’t even aware of Kanye West’s outburst at an award show that took place in Europe. If that’s the case, a lot of the viewers didn’t get the joke.

It would be one thing if Gwen Stephani* did it at the Billboard Music Awards, since they are more closely related, musically than Kanye and Faith Hill are.

*God, it took me a long time to come up with a name. I’m so old that I’m out of the loop.

I noticed in the clip before the winner was announced, she was acting kind of funny, looking up at the ceiling and all around and she seemed a bit loopy. Maybe she was rollin’ or something.

I don’t see why you think so. Immediately before the announcement was made, Hill looked like she was all set to go into celebration mode in anticipation of a win. Then the name is said and you can see her expression instantly do a 180 flip. Sorry, but the time it would have taken for her to register the news that she’d lost before jumping into a pre-planned parody of Kanye West is too small for that to be a plausible explanation, at least to me.

Her reaction seemed like a reflexive response to news that went completely against her expectations.
