Here’s a mundane, pointless thing I’d like to share with everyone:
In my social group we have devised a code word to use if one of us is with a girlfriend and wants to be left alone with her:
Diet pepsi.
This was picked as a code word because we all HATE diet pepsi and would never actually ask for it. So when someone requests it, there is no possibility of confusion: We just leave those two lovebirds to their own devices.
If they want to be left alone for an extended period of time, we request “Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi”
Does it work? Doesn’t the Diet Pepsier get ragged unmercifully if nothing comes of it? And can you resist winking and nudging and giggling, tipping off the ‘diet pepsiee’?
Just be aware that people can pick up when you’re using code words very easily, and would put two and two together when you say some out-of-context phrase, exchange knowing glances and suddenly you’re alone with them.
