Cool, here comes the Whine and Jeeeeeez party.
Roll Tide 31-0!
Nice to see that SEC fans are in their midseason classlessness form for opening weekend.
31-7
Go Blue! Not a shutout!
What is classless about celebrating a blowout win against a ranked OOC team in prime time?
ROLL TIDE!
Can you imagine what the Big 10 fans would be saying if the situation was reversed?
Actually, I can’t fathom the reverse situation. Big 10 team blowing out a Top ranked SEC team?
Not gonna happen.
I’d imagine something about “What SEC speed?” or “Overrated!”.
I’m willing to take my lumps. It’s part of the fan experience. Michigan is being pummeled and deserves any ridicule.
As for any whining, take it as the compliment that it is. The scoreboard and national championships are the only argument you need. Of course fans from other conferences will whine. Let them. It’s part of the package when you’re so dominant.
Also, 14-34! Go Blue!
Since my beloved 'Bama is getting enough love, I’d like to get y’all’s opinion on the end of the Clemson-Auburn game. Clemson has 4th and goal on the 1 yard line with a minute and change. Clemson has a 4 point lead and the decision to go for the TD or kick a chipshot field goal to go up by 7.
I say they go for the TD. If they get it, game over. Even if they don’t, Auburn needs a TD either way. I’d rather my opponent have to go from their own ~1 than from their 25 (with the possiblilty of running the kickoff back for a touchdown.)
What say you? What was the right call?
Roll Tide 41-14!
FTR I’m a Badger. I don’t support Michigan, unless they are playing Ohio State. I was of two minds watching the Northwestern-Syracuse today, rooting for the Big Ten, yet not want Northwestern to win. Northwestern isn’t in the Badger playbook this year so the angst was misplaced.
The Clemson win over Auburn was sweet. The real concern should be LSU. They gave up 14 points to North Texas. LSU should be worried.
OSU didn’t score 100.
Pulled the true freshman QB in the first quarter. Got to see the walkons. Good day.
If you’re not watching the Oklahoma-UTEP game, you should be.
[I started to type “OU-UTEP”, but that would be too vague. Speaking of which…
Which OSU?
Well, That game from Michigan was just weird. I know you will all say I am just sour grapes, But I don’t think Hoke planned on trying to win. It was like he was so scared that Urban Meyer had walked into the conference with a bigger dick then him and panicked.
the whole thing about putting Fitz as the starter three days ago, then saying he wouldn’t play at all.
All the comments last week about how last year was a failure because they didn’t win the Big Ten.
The very obvious strategy that Saban was going to stop the run and try to contain Denard in the pocket without pressure and force him to throw. Which after the fourth series was obvious Hoke was going to just keep doing, and Denard was going to fail at.
Playing Denard in the fourth quarter down 41-14 with 3 minutes to go in the fourth after he left hurt twice, then going straight to Bellomy?(I admit , I had to look that up I don’t know the number) as though he was afraid Gardner might actually do something productive instinctively.
Playing that same stupid off tackle right and left with Vincent Smith about 16 times when it didn’t work any of them(the only time it did anything was when he ended up so packed in with defenders heading to the same spot he was going he literally bounced outside.
Just realistically , everybody knows Denard will get hurt sometime this year, and Gardner will take the reins for some number of plays.
I just honestly think around Thursday morning Hoke weighed his options and decided he wasn’t going to beat them, so he decided he wasn’t going to show anybody in his league anything at all, he really didn’t look that upset at anytime, and he is not a stoic dude. his big fat face gets as red as a stop sign when he is frustrated.
Michigan did not lose because they got out coached. They lost because they got beat by a better team on both sides of the ball. Alabama’s offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage, and the defense stuffed Michigan other than a couple of big plays after the game was decided.
Oh yeah, and when the score was 14-34 in the fourth and Michigan had the ball I invented the chant of “One for Floyd” and at least half the bar understood and joined. Damn I love that bar :).
I don’t go to that bar, so you’ll have to explain it to me.
You’re right, Michigan didn’t lose because they were outcoached. However, they did lose by 27 because of asinine playcalling. Time after time they handed it off on first and second down and then ran play action on third when the first two plays went nowhere. Robinson can make plays with his feet. Why take away your biggest weapon?
Make no mistake, Bama would have won no matter what plays Michigan ran. Especially when the defense was getting run over and missing tackles left and right. But it would have been closer if not for inexplicable coaching decisions.
Oh, I heard about that. I wanted Saban to keep his starters in to insure Mayweather lost that bet.
[I thought that there might be some inside story about a Michigan or Ohio State guy named Floyd.]
I think we see why preseason polls aren’t worth squat. Michigan was vastly overrated. If you can’t run and can’t stop the run, you don’t have any business being in the top 10.
Overall, a decent 10-2 for the Big Ten. Penn State just lost too many players. It’s going to be a very long year in Happy Valley. Good gutty road wins for Northwestern and Minnesota. Surprising close wins for Wisconsin and Iowa. Good workmanlike games by Ohio State, Purdue, and Nebraska. Indiana barely gets by Indiana State and Illinois beats a scrappy Western Michigan.
Which brings me to my beloved Spartans. Maxwell tried to do too much in his first start, at times forcing the ball. Some of the INTs weren’t his fault at all, receivers tipped the ball. The talent drop at WR is pretty huge. Still, the defense played very well except for a couple big plays. The Lansing paper’s headline said it best: Saved By The Bell. Bell is going to have a monster year and is a dark horse Heisman possibility.
He impressed the Hell out of me. Kinda like a 245 lb Reggie Bush.
