Missed the SC-Vandy game last night, as I was doing my fantasy draft, but Michigan State-Boise State is on now, also Tennessee against…somebody on another channel.
Tomorrow’s got the Main Event of Opening Weekend, with Alabama-Michigan on ABC in prime time. ** Roll Tide!**
I’m watching Michigan State tonight. They’re up 7-0 on Boise State in the middle of the First Quarter…
My Akron Zips got spanked at home by UCF to begin the Terry Bowden era. But there were signs of competence and hope for recovery after 2 seasons of futility under Rob Ianello. UCF is speedy and athletic and is getting some votes in the polls…they should have a nice season.
It’s telling that Boise almost pulled off the upset with a virtually non-existent offense; graduation finally caught up with them. Anyway, I figured MSU would roll them by about 20, but the defense played their asses off. If Boise can improve their QB and OLine play, they’ll be pretty damn good for years to come.
Also, fwiw, I have to say I’m rather impressed with Peterson as a coach. The way he continues to do so much with so little is amazing. If he’s not the best college football coach right now, he’s definitely top 3.
After 6 years of protests, tree-sitters, lawsuits, construction, and a year away from home AT&T Park, my Cal Golden Bears returned home today to their spectacularly remodeled home. Absolutely gorgeous, always the best setting in college football, but now state of the art, up to date, and beautiful inside and out.
And we had a nice winnable game against Nevada – 11 point favorites.
The Bears absolutely shit the bed. No defense, no offense, lost 31-24 and it didn’t look that close.
I had the Bears going 8-4 this year; 4-8 looks much more likely. Thank God USC is a road game and I don’t have to watch it.
I think somebody said in the 50’s, when the Yankees absolutely dominated baseball, that rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for US Steel (when they dominated manufacturing & industry).
